I'm taking Bob back to the vets tomorrow. He's still wheezing, and I think we'll have to go to an inhaler mask. I've tried to prepare him for the sounds and experience as best I can, but he doesn't seem to like it much. (I bought a bottle of Primatine Mist so he could get used to spray and sound from a bottle.) Anyone else use an inhaler mask? Also, my other kitty Freckles seems to have a cold - would that aggrivate the asthma in Bob?

My littlest guy Frankie has allergies and his breathing is just awful at times. The vet has us give him a monitered dose of an over the counter antihistimine that does not harm cats. It is a ongoing battle. I understand what you are going through!!! Sometimes I think Frankie needs an inhaler!!! My allergies have been worse where we live and we are having an awful time with a haymill by our house putting off way to much dust. The town people have the EPA involved with this. I wonder if the hay pollen could be bothering him too!!!

I used an aerokat mask with Ophelia for a while, until it wasn't effective enough. She wasn't wild about it, but it was doable, and I found it very easy to use with an inhaler for her.

There is lots of information on Feline Asthma on www.fritzthebrave.com
This is my favorite site on feline asthma, I highly recommend it also!

Thanks for your help. The vet gave me some options, and I decided to use the inhaler during attacks and continue on the prednisone therapy (with some dosage changes). The vet brought up the subject of his life expectancy today, which bummed me out. He's not in danger now, but probably won't be one of those cats who makes it to 18 or 20. I think I needed to hear it from someone not emotionally involved.
