I heard this some place before. that more people get killed being elephant handlers a year, than people who are firemen.

Around here there are large dairy farms and they have manure "pits" under the barns that hold lots of "cow waste". Twice a yr these pits are pumped out and tanker trucks haul the liquid waste to spread on fields. As the air gets pretty smelly-I can't imagine being in the middle of the action.
A icky temp job I had before I got married; there is the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) fly-in in Oshkosh, WI every yr. I worked for a caterer separating chicken pieces into 5 gallon buckets and removing extra skin and fat. I didn't eat chicken for two yrs after that job!!

I saw a bit of that. There's also a show on the History Channel called "The worst jobs in history" and the host actually tries to do these jobs. Man did people back then have it tough!

My worst job was working at a bar and having to clean the bathrooms....i have no stomach for vomit...and there would always be barf. And in the guys rooms...there would be pee on the walls and doors and sinks...i mean...what do guys do in there...have peeing contest?????

Especially, IMO, what would REALLY suck is you climb all the way up there, and find out the replacement bulb you brought is already dead!

We love the show "Dirty Jobs". It's interesting to see all the jobs that you never think about, that totally suck, but if people weren't willing to do them it'd suck for the rest of us.

I think being a crime scene clean-up person would be a pretty bad job.

Scooping up road kill's gotta suck.

Many years ago I used to work on a chicken farm. They have these big pits where you dump the dead birds etc and once a year they got cleaned out. OMG, what a wee taste of hell that would be. The smell was unbelievable- from inside the building quite some distance away.

ugh.
I once worked in a car wash. Its bad enough to have to wash cars all day, but once a week we had to shovel out the pits underneath the wash line itself. It smelled like a sewer.

I also once worked retail in the Mall of America during tourist season.
During those few months, I sincerely hated most of the human race.

I have it on good authority (a vice detective) that they DON'T clean those.

Dog walker on a cold, nasty, rainy day...

The vet assistant who gets to hold the parvo puppy while they place an IV catheter just as he lets loose with another bowel movement...

(in case you can't tell, I've done both of these)

But for me? My nightmare job would be something with a zillion monotonous details. Maybe accounting. I think that would truly suck. I'd rather clean septic tanks any day!

There's a TV show called Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe. I saw one where he works with a few guys who clean houses after the sewer has backed up through the toilet or some other way into their house. Pooh everywhere!
The guy who owned that small business said that he started it because the sewer backed up in his house once and he had to get a company to clean it up. After than, he wanted to help people recover from the same filthy mess. He must have a heart of gold. I think there's jobs that could be equally disgusting, but not likely more disgusting than that.

Any job in which you have to deal with unhappy people. So I don't think I'd like to work in the complaints department!

Ooooh I dunno. My brother-in-law used to run a very successful business cleaning up after the investigation was done at crime scenes. Talk about a gruesome and upsetting job....
