Hi everyone...

I introduced myself in the "New Cats On The Block" thread a few days ago after having to take my kitty to the vet for a urinary blockage that turned out to be a bladder infection.

He is home now and recovering, and has to be on antibiotics for the next 21 days. He only has to take a 1/2 pill a day, and it is impossible!!! The 'New Cats On The Block' thread will have the details of what we have tried.

If anyone has any suggestions, it would be very much appreciated!
Thanks in advance

Emerald I found this article for you. It's how to pill a cat. I know you've tried but maybe a new approach will help.

http://www.peteducation.com/article....articleid=1064

We've also has several clients who cannot no matter what pill their cat so they bring them in for an injection everyday. Of course this is more stressful on the cat and it can be costly but it works.:paranoid2

Or if nothing else works talk to your veterinarian about what else can be done to ensure that your kitty gets his pill.

Good luck!!

BadHabit, thank you!
I have read the article, and have never tried wrapping him a towel first. That might cut down on the scratches, anyway

Thanks again!

do you have someone who lives there with you? or that can come over daily and help you? the way we do it is i hold a cat and my husband opens their mouth and puts a pill in and holds the mouth closed. some of our cats are stuburn and want to hold the pill in their mouth. in a case like that i get a little maynaise or butter or something on my finger and rub it on their mouth to make them lick. so they swallow. our cat sturdy is soooo strong it is hell giving him a pill. i have to put my thick winter coat on so i don't get clawed up. but the rest of them do fine. i've never had to give a cat a pill all by myself. (well, i did have to one time, but my 9 yr old held her.) we just had to treat our whole crew cuz one baby had a cold. let us know how things turn out. oh, can you crush the pill and put in a spoon full of can food?? i don't know what you've tried already. good luck.

I visited the "Pilling Cat" thread, and it looks like there are some poor folks in the same boat as me *lol*
I always say "There are 15 gazillion cats in the world, and I get stuck with the quirky one

Diablo didn't eat anything from when we got him home on Sat until last night (Monday). I decided enough was enough, and opened up a can of Whiskas that my mom had brought for him when she came to visit. I had to know if it was because he didn't want to eat, or if it was the type of food (I had a hunch he was associating his food with the overnight vet stay, as they gave him the same food while he was there).

Now, I don't normally pray, but you have never seen someone pray harder than me after I dished that food out! As I was hoping, he dove right in and started eating!!! I was so happy I jumped up and down.
This morning, I gave him a little more with his crushed up meds in it.
He hasn't finished it all yet, so I am thinking that tossing the pill down his throat and blowing on his nose might do the trick, and be quicker as well.

I phoned the vet yesterday and explained about how he wasn't eating, and she said she would leave a couple of cans of different food for me to pick up. One is Waltham pH control, and the other is Hill's c/d-s. I think I will try the pH control first, as this is what we need in order to prevent further irritation of his bladder.

Despite all, I am so glad to have him home, and am cherishing every moment

I'm so glad Diablo is doing better! Very good sign that he is eating.

And I think that we ALL have the quirky cats. I'd be more amazed at a cat who wasn't quirky!

i would really recommend using a pill gun. after countless attempts to get a worming tablet down my cat, it went down first time using the gun and is actually very easy to use. i think you can get them from most pet shops.

I HAVE ALWAYS HAD SOMEONE HOLD THE CAT AND PUSHED THE PILL DOWN ITS THROAT WITH MY THUMB, BUT LIKE EVERYONE SAYS THEY FIGHT IT OFF IT WILL EVENTUALLY GO DOWN BUT THEY TRY LIKE HECK NOT TO LET IT, USUALLY IF YOU PUSH IT DOWN FAR ENOUGH THEY WILL SWALLOW IN MY EXPERIENCE.
