Brody's Ear

I think it's possible I got water in Brody's (my dog) ear when I gave him a bath Thursday. I searched online and found that it was safe to do the 1/2 vinegar 1/2 alcohol solution and put a few drops in his ear to dry the water out. Has anyone else heard of this?

I would suggest putting the solution on a Q-tip and swabbing the ear out with it, instead of dropping it into the ear. Make sure to get as deep down as you can. You won't hurt the eardrum if you go far down, it's a long way in and on an angle, just don't try cramming the thing in there too hard.

Is Brody prone to ear infections? If not I would'nt worry to much about the water, it should evaporate by itself. We have bathed many a dog, and never put any drops in thier ears afterward. I would be afraid that the mixture would throw off the natural balance in his ear, leaving him prone to things like yeast infections of the ear. But, if you ae concerned, run it by your vet to see what they suggest.

Thanks for the response guys!
I ended up using the 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water mixture (I checked with the vet about it Monday). It worked because he has not had any problems since I used it. I was happy not to have an ear infection because we are starting his heartworm treatments Tuesday.
