Ok, I've had ENOUGH of these cold, dark, gray yucky days! I'm thinking maybe I'll move to Georgia someday. It looks like a warmer place with longer summers. Minnesota is tough, and I'm not. I really NEED to be one with nature again and bask in the sun while planting petunias! Someone help me here and tell me where's a good state to live. This climate just does not agree with me. I'll take a winter that's in the 40's and only last 3 months max. Any states like that out there?

I'm in southern Arizona and our temps have been around 80, for the past two weeks. Overnight lows are high 40s to low 50s. By 9 a.m., I'm in shirt sleeves and the back door is open.

LOL! I am in wisconsin, and it has also been very grey and ugly. It's depressing me a little bit. I havent been able to wear my new sunglasses yet. LOL!

We are going to Florida for vacation in one month!! YES! I am exited. (mostly b/c my sunglasses can be used there)

But I know wisconsin is like this, and known it for years. It's just a crappy time of year. But it gets better, and we can start smiling again.

I've thought about going back to Texas. I really liked it there, and recently I heard Texas has the most reasonably priced real estate in the country right now. If i didn't need to be near my parents right now, and if I thought I could get work there, I'd consider it. Besides, Washington is crawling with liberals. I need a red state to live in.

But you are from Massachusetts!
You should be used to cold, dark, dreary days!

Jeepers. That sounds like what I wish for! You should move to Perth - you'd have all the long, hot summers you can handle!!

We are moving from Mississippi to Texas Saturday (Jan 14th) and i have to say that their real estate costs are much much higher than we are used to here in MS. ( the standard of living isnt that much higher in Texas than it is here) Our current home in MS could easily sell for upwards of 200,000 $ in Texas whereas we will be very very lucky to get 95000$ for it here. We are having to rent a house in Texas for almost 2 times our current house payment here. Plus all the deregulation of utilities is crazy. Right now in MS we pay 6 cents per KWH for electricity-- Our bills run about 150-200$ permonth. The cheapest power company rates in Texas in the area we are moving to are 16 cents per KwH. Thats almost triple what we pay now. But we are still moving, & im extrememly excited. Even after all my whining above though, i can understand. No grocery tax, no state income tax, tax free weekend once per year, and a bit better wages and more job opps, as well as better education for my kids and better, more open minded vet care for my furbabies.

I was there the week following christmas and it was in the high 70s and low 80s-- although last christmas Houston woke up to a WHITE CHRISTMAS. I for one will be glad to get out of this crazy winter weather us Mississippians have had to deal with in the last few years. ( it was 30 degrees two days ago, 55 yesterday, and supposed to be close to 70 today with temps supposed to drop monday back into the low 50s-- its enough to keep most Mississippians sick all winter long)

Just remember, tornadoes and hurricaines are common in the south and the closer you are to the coast, the more likely you are to get those wonderful afternoon summer rainshowers.

Ive lived in Georgia for a year now. Moved here from Ohio so i know the cold weather all too good lol. I moved south bc of the warmer weather! And they are building homes everywhere! And the prices arent so bad either. My county is one of the fastest growing counties in GA and i can really tell.

Good luck!

There's no place like home
I grew up in Chicago and lived there for 30 years. I had the same attitude that you have now and moved to Texas for warmer weather. It was too hot and humid down there for me so moved partly back north to Missouri. Winters are still too cold for me here (but not nearly as cold as Chicago) so I always have an eye out for New Mexico or Arizona.

Kansas City is loaded with folks from Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska. I think they come here cause the weather is warmer without being oppressive.

I used to live in Massachusetts. Grew up there, so I know New England winters. Similiar to Minnesota, but not as cold. Wherever I end up I DON"T want to live in a tornado belt and I need some space. Arizona sounds nice, but I'm a plants person and really need Green. I appreciate all your feedback. It's nice to know I'm not the only one praying for nicer weather.

Cacti ARE green, as are palo verde (green stick) trees, cottonwoods, mesquite and creosote bushes. After the summer rains, wild flowers bloom all over the place and the creosote smells wonderful. In addition , one is usually not far from a mountain range, with pine and juniper forest.

I live in Tucson and our Mt. Lemmon boasts the southernmost ski area, in the continental US.

Throw in low cost of living, affordable housing, great food and spectacular sunsets.

Yes, that's a pond in middle Ga. We moved here in 1972 from Miami, Florida and it's still too cold here for me but it'd be a nice change for you
.

Southernlocs: Wouldn't happen to live in Houston County would you? That's were we are, just South of Centerville.

Oh, and the Bass was released to be caught again

I wish I was back in Georgia! Eastern NC has similar weather, but it is soooo ugly here. Jacksonville was a swamp before it was drained to build Camp Lejuene. Yuck! I hate it here.
