Today I was in Wal-Mart looking at plants to buy for an elderly woman that always eats at the restaurant I work at and her and her husband have become our adopted grandparents.
Anyhow, this lady standing next to me looking at plants asked her friend with her a question that I happened to over hear.

She said "yes, it's pretty, but do you think that stupid cat will eat it"

Ughhhhhhhhh

What is wrong with people???
If she thinks that poor cat is so stupid, then why does she even have it?

People like that make me so mad I could just cry!

I hear what you're saying. I've heard a lot of people say things like that, about their 'stupid cats'. Even if they're just joking sometimes, it still bothers me. It's like calling your children stupid. It just doesn't make much sense...?

I'd say that either she doesn't care about the cat at all... or she was sort of joking.

I have to confess, I do sometimes call my cats stupid (as in "those stupid cats destroyed the Christmas tree again"). But I don't say that because I don't love them and I don't really think they are stupid. It's just silly talk and I would NEVER say that if they could understand what I'm saying (just like I would NEVER say that about my kids, if I had any). Hopefully that woman might have been the same way.

But yeah... there are so many people who see their pets as more of an annoyance than anything else. That's just sad. Especially for the pets but also for the owners who don't appreciate what they have.

For the cats happiness, I hope she is good to him/her. And I dont know. She seemed mean to me. I guess thats why it bothered me so much.

My ex just kicked a cat out in Bulgaria with the excuse that she is STUPID, she was a pure tortie (looks alot like serenety) I told him he should of taken the cat to the shelter and he just replied with
"lol they dont have that sort of s*** here in bulgaria"

I told him to atleast bring her to the vet and they still didnt...
Mind you in Bulgaria everything is alot cheaper than Germany, he makes me so mad, and well his fiance isnt any better.

Yeah hopefully she was nicely joking.

I had a kitten I called Ugly once, he was dead ugly but that didn't mean I loved him any less.

I hope she was just kidding - you know, in an affectionate `that stupid cat' kind of way. Although you were there and it didn't sound like it. I probably would have said something, I usually do when I hear people talking about animals. Call me nosey, hey, that's cool!
