I've posted a couple of times about a (very, very) pregnant feral girl that we trapped last August, named JinJin. A couple of days later she had her litter of 5 kittens. They're all adopted out now.
JinJin was pretty emaciated when we trapped her, and nursing kittens prevented her from gaining much weight, even with a steady diet of good food. Along the way she had a bout of respiratory distress which landed her in the emergency clinic for the night.
Since there was no danger of her getting pregnant (the only other cat here at the time was Beau, a feral boy, who had looong since been neutered), I delayed her spay a bit because her health always seems so precarious, and her weight low. Well she went today (the 5th). When I called for the update, I was told the spay went well. Unfortunately her teeth were another issue.
The poor girl's teeth were a mess! She had broken and loose teeth, one of which (I think a molar) was oozing pus!
They pulled two of her teeth, and drilled out the roots!
Apparently she has gingivitis as well. She had been to a different vet when we first trapped her (we were looking into getting a spay/abort, but the vet told us that the kittens were already viable), he said her teeth had alot of plaque, but he never said they were that bad. Of course, this is the same vet who told us that she didn't have fleas...yeah.
I feel soooo bad! This poor girl must have been in so much pain! I can't believe she's been as sweet as she has been. I'm actually kind of looking forward to see how she is when she has recovered...she was making great progress up until now (I got the headbutt 3 days ago!
), but when she's not in constant pain, I'm wondering if she'll make even greater strides (I hope I hope I hope!).
Poor baby girl!
