Hm, my Pouncer gets 1 can of wet food a day altogether, in meals of 1/3 of the can each time. She's at a full 5 months now, but I don't know how much she weighs. At her initial vet visit as a 5 week old kitten she was 14 ounces- I think.. I haven't had her weighed since.

My problem is that she's been meowing the last couple of weeks lately for food inbetween meals. I don't know whether she's just one of those constant "I want a snack" cats or if she really IS hungry because 1/3 of the can isn't enough for her. We're used to her begging from us every time someone walks into the kitchen, but lately she's been getting more persistent, to the point where she's taught herself to jump up onto the kitchen counter and drag things out of the trashcan.

She's still very active during the day, so it doesn't seem like she's lacking energy through want of food. Help?

feed a kitten as much as theyll eat..if she is over the lb on the label up her portions accordingly... Most cans say 1 can for 6 lbs or something like that..

Are you feeding this cat dry food as well? I didnt catch that in your post, sorry if Im wrong.

But anyhow, my thinking is that you said you didnt say anything about the dry food. So I am thinking you might want to put in some dry food in with the wet food as well. Any purina Pro Plan Kitten food will be good. Or you can go to the pet store, and they have "quality" kitten food that would be best.

Just mix in some with the wet food, but make it so the portions arent that much bigger. My kitten gets 1/3 of a cup wet/dry food 2 times a day, and a little bit of dry food for a snack in between.

Well thats all I have to say I suppose.
Good luck

hm, no, we only feed her half a handful of dry food inbetween meals as a snack if she really gets too persistent about wanting food. i'm afraid if i put dr food out she'll just eat it all regardless of whether she can handle that much or not.

by the way, HELP! alert: my family went out to dinner, and my dad had left a hot dog in a bun loosely wrapped in foil on the kitchen counter from this afternoon. when we came home, the foil was on the floor and most of the hot dog was gone. the guilty eater was of course, our lovely cat. now her stomach is all full (she looks bloated), and i'm not planning on giving her any dinner. will she be okay? mom's afraid that when she drinks some water the bread will expand in her tummy and cause problems.

Don't worry about the hot dog. She might have an upset tummy but it won't hurt her in the long run.

She is going through a growth spurt at 5 months and needs more food than she did even a few weeks ago. If you give her some food when she asks for it, she will learn that food is readily available and will be much less likely to overeat as an adult.

p.s. - she's CUTE!

My Lily is 4 months 1 week old. She has always been in the habit of coming to a person for attention & as she gets petted, she bites you. This is her way of saying "Feed me again!". When she does this, I hand feed her some food. One bite at a time as I pet her. It takes forever, but I feel like I am really bonding with her. Since I have been hand feeding her, she has seemed to prefer me over the rest of the family.
However, you must be careful that your kitty doesn't get used to hand feeding. She might insist on being hand fed later in life.

Lily got weighed as a kitten, too. I cannot even remember what she weighed or how old she was. I stepped on our bathroom scale while holding Lily & looked at what we weighed. Then I set her on the floor to see what I weighed alone. I just figured out the difference & then I have a general idea of what she weighs. We don't have a digital scale, so it isn't very exact, but at least its an idea.
