I got a letting in the mail today from The ISP (International Society of Photographers) I got one last year after I sent in this picture..

They want me to come to Las Vegas because they say i have been nominated as Amateur Photographer of the year and want me to talk about my picture. (i think its a big hoax) it says" You will also be honored with two seperate and very special awards for your photographic achievement" "you will be formally presented with you "outstanding achievement in amateur photograpy" silver bowl. and "In recognition of you photograp, we will also create and present to you a beautiful and colorful commemorative award medallion to honor you dedication and achievements"

PUHLEEEEEZE!!!! all i did was snap a shot of my kids playing and enter it into a photo contest. i didn't win but i got a letter saying that my picture was going to be published in a coffee table book... yeah i never heard anything else ...till now..

so what do yall think genuine or hoax?

Did they tell you what to do? Do they have a number so you can call to find out if it's true?

they sent me a registration form reserviing my spot. it will cots me 595 dollars to go to this "convention" on top of travel and hotel expences all comes out of my pocket. it is at the Riviera Hotel and Casino it has the address and phone number. I just think it is a way for them to get me to spend money and for them to make oddles of money!!

While I think your pic is great, I think this is their way of upping their numbers for their convention, get you in the door where I'm sure they will have 1001 ways to part you from more of your money. I wouldn't say it's necessarily a Hoax, but I would also venture a guess that everyone gets a bowl and medallion for coming to their convention.

so basically, the bowl & medallion cost $595 - 'cause you can find lodging way cheaper than that in Vegas

My daugter used to submit poetry to a site like this and they sent her the same type of information.
If she wanted to pay $$$ to go to some awards ceremony blah, blah, blah.....

It is a very cute picture but I would try to submit it locally.
Our newspaper has a yearly (i think) photo contest.

So does the Parade section from the Sunday papers.

On the west side of... of... somewhere.
the photography one and the poetry one are the same thing. I believe it's the same company. i got hooked by the poetry one... thank God they stopped bugging me after two years. i wasn't a winner or anything... but yes, they are essentially a scam. In the round I entered, the winning poem was such garbage, I know darn well mine and at least a handful of others in the book were 100X better. But, hey, it got me writing more poetry. I'm now writing a novel as well as my poetry. I just hope I can get the novel published!

But, yes... it is a scam.

Thanks guys I figured it was. It's still kinda fun to get mail thought that has a picture I took in it lol. The kids think its the greatest thing they think now everyone is LV knows who they are. I told them it didn't matter who knew who they are they are special to me and thay is why I torture them by taking pics all the time lol. It was alot of fun taking that pic I love fall.

It's a great pic -- but, yeah, it's a scam, all right -- there are lots of variations on the theme. Basically, if they tell you, "You didn't win, but we love you, come fork over some money for a 'prize'" -- that's a scam.

There really is a scam for everything. I'd say it's Scam-o-ramma and a ½ with a capital "S"! Nice photo though.
