I'll move this to Care & Grooming where we cover moving issues.

My understanding is that whenever you move indoor/outdoor cats, it is best to keep them inside the new place for at least 2 weeks so it becomes their territory.

Cats are very territory oriented and must be acclimated to a new place, or else they will try to find their old home. As strong as their bonds with you are, their bonds with their territory may be even stronger. Therefore, it is absolutely essential that they are kept strictly indoors for a minimum of two weeks, and preferably 4-6 weeks, after you move so they acclimate to their new home. Then they can start to go outdoors, but restrict them to supervised outdoor time until they show signs of recognizing the new place as home.
