for a Ragdoll kitty, most likely coming home in May'ish..... there are several kitties due so a few litters I may be able to choose from... Well the breeder is goign to choose for me...... the breeder is in Rhode Island so only about 4 hours from me. He shows in CFA And TICA and CFF I think is what I read..... he has been really helpful in answering my questions so I cna't ask for more than that.... he screens for HCM and some others that i can't remember the acronyms for..... so there ya have it.... a kitty on the way.

I am going ot have lots of questions .... mostly about the scratching post and how to train that.... I Figure I can clicker train the scratching post ..... and foods and all that sort of stuff... I have had kitties my whole life but its been a long time 15 years since I have had a baby so I want to make sure we do this right.

Introducing my dogs is going to be a big deal.... I am not quite sure how to do that...... I am going to buy a kitty tree..... one that looks like a tree with a hammock and high places for kitty to get to be away from dogs.... I am going to need some supplies so I will be looking for catalogues and places to buy kitty things.....

I am still quite sad about my Jim kitty but am excited about hte prospects of a new baby.....

so that is my update.

Congratulations!!!!!!
I am so happy for you!!! The breeder should already have a great start on the scratching post training. Get a few water bottles to place around your home, and if you see the kitten scratching in inappropriate places, a firm no and place him on his acceptable scratching area. We use the sisal rope and the corregated cardboard, and our furlings like both. We have no problem with any of our adults. When the kitten gets older, you can refresh the cat tree with cat nip. I will send you a few links to find a huge cat tree for a great price!! We have had great luck with these cat tree's and they fit our huge kitties.

Does your breeders name begin with a "K"? I think I know who you went with, and from word of mouth, he is a wonderful breeder!! A great reputation, and I think you made a wonderful choice!!
When you get the kitten, try and keep him/her on the same food and litter as the breeder has the kitten on. If you are planning on changing the food, do so over a 2 or 3 week period, slowly mixing in the new.
So glad you found a breeder who HCM scans, that is so important!!
Please keep us updated, and show us lots of pictures and lots of brags!!
Congratulations!!

yes the breeder begins wiht a K it is Kasseldolls and he is expecting a few litters.... I emailed him the other day and he was very helpul, the timing looks perfect for us and I am thrilled.

I have alot to learn so I appreciate all of your insight.... its been a long time and I have to be honest and say I have never been very successful wtih the scratching post so I will be looking for lots of help....

Its very reassuring to know that he has a great reputation, he was quick to offer me references so that was a good sign to me.... I am glad that yo uhave heard of him. I contacted two Canadian breeders as to be honest Canada is closer than RI but the timing wasn't right with one and the other one.... well just kinda irritated me a bit with the money thing...... so I chose not to do that.....

so thanks.... and Hissy thanks for the link that is going to be very helpful ,,,, I dont want to overwhelm this kitty and I am thinking introducing one or two dogs at a time will be the best way to handle it.... and then a couple months later we will have a litter of puppies so it is going ot be crazy for a while but I guess good for kitty to grow up with the puppy babies so that he gets used to the chaos that is my life.
thanks

I don't know Ken personally, but we frequent a lot of the same Ragdoll breeder lists, and Ragdoll forums, and his reputation is very good. Each kitten is individual, but I would bet that he will have a very solid foundation on the scratching post training and litter training.
I don't think I have asked what color and pattern you are getting, or if it is a boy or girl? I noticed he has begun working with the blue eyed whites!! This color is still really new to the Ragdoll world, but they are gorgeous and very much type.
I have a girl being shipped from Maine as soon as the weather is warm enough to fly, the breeder that she is coming from did Ken's site, as well as a few other Ragdoll websites in the New England states.
Please keep me updated, I can't wait to see pictures!!

can you put me in touch with some of these lists and forums, I would be interested in learning more about the breed..... I have requested a bi-color... preferable blue or lilac and then seal as my third choice..... I also like the cream bicolor...... I am most concerned about temperment and I do want a pet qualtiy neutered male. I did say that depending on the kitty and the temperment I would entertain other patterns mitted for example if he thought the temperment was right. He does not have dogs but the timing is so good that we wil lbe able to get kitty and dogs togheter slowly...... as dogs are outside most of the time in the spring..... so that is the scoop.....
I can't wait to have this kitty and hubby is fine with the timing and getting the kitty so I am thrilled.....
