Last night Sage started drooling and her mouth is all foamy. I took her into the vet today, and he thinks it is gastreo something. He gave her a shot and some medicine today. Would gas really cause this?

I am worried it is something else although I have no idea what. She has no appetite and only wants some water occassionally.

Poor kittie. Cats can foam from the mouth for any number of reasons. It could be a tooth problem or an infection in the digestive system. I'd keep a close eye on your kittie, and take her back to the vets if she does not improve over the next few days. I dont think this is a serious problem, and your vet is probably right with his diagnosis. Dont let your cat not eat anything for several, this can cause other health problems.

I can't get her to eat. I bring her all of her favorite foods and she just sniffs them and turns her head. She also hides a lot. I can hardly ever find her and it is scaring me. She keeps throwing up everything, I gave her meds and she threw up an hour later.

I'd say give the vet a call again, and if they don't do anything try another vet. Just to be safe! I have no idea what it could be, I'm no expert at all, but that's what I would do...I hope your baby is alright.

Did the vet say gastro-intestinal problems?

About a year ago, one of my cats became quite lethargic and she stopped eating. We took her into my work where upon an exam and x-rays, we discovered she was full of gas. She was given medication and a special diet high in fiber (small meals every few hours) which seemed to do the trick...luckily she hadn't ingested something to cause a obstruction. However, in her case she wasn't vomiting.
Is it possible your kitty got into something? Did your vet do a x-rays (with barium) in order to determine if there is a blockage?

It's something I wouldn't leave and I'm glad you're getting a second opinion. Good luck, and I hope your kitty feels better.

Your cat needs to be checked again and more thoroughly. Foaming at the mouth could be caused by something more serious. Max did that and it was the first syptom he had. Within a few days he was gone from here. His diagnosis was renal failure. Please take your cat to a vet who will check your cat thoroughly to rule out serious problems.

They did take Xrays and couldn't find anything but I am still not sure I agree with his diagnosis. She is vomiting every three hours and still will not eat. She is going in about an hour to the other appointment so we shall see what this one says.

I am limited on Vet selection due to my location.

Well they are keeping her for several hours to monitor her. They are running blood tests as well as testing for FIV, intestinal worms. They are going to call us in several hours to tell us how she is doing and if she will be okay to come home tonight or not.

How old is Sage and was she displaying any abnormal behaviour (lethargy, increased urine etc.) before she started salivating? Your answers may (or may not) provide some clues as to what's going on.

I'm glad they're doing blood work as the results will shed light on how her body & internal organs (kidneys, liver etc.) are functioning. It will most likely give you some answers as to what's going on if the x-rays didn't show anything.

UPDATE: They checked her bloodwork and said her kidney count was high and her white blood cells count was high. They think it is renal failure. They are keeping her on an IV overnight and going to try to get her to eat. They are not operating at this time. They will call us tomorrow morning and let us know how she is doing.

Oskar is now vomitting as well so he is going in today at 1230. They still aren't sure exactly what is wrong.

Sage has blood in her urine, high kidney enzymes and a high white blood count. They are thinking it is kidney disease or she ate string, no clue where she could have gotten string from. She isn't even a year old yet.

Now Oskar is exhibiting the same behavior.

are there plants in your home they could have gotten into? Do they have access outside? Poor kitties, and poor you. I hope they can find out what is wrong and stop it before it is to late.

I am so sorry for what has happened to Charcoal, and now Oskar appears to be affected too. Is there anything is your house your cats could have been exposed too that would cause this. Have you put out any kind of poison for bugs or mice. That can cause problems if cats eat small bugs or rodents that have eaten poison. What about plants they might have eaten, or have they been exposed to anti-freeze. I hope the vet can find out what has caused this and stop it. Again, I am sorry. Prayers to you Oskar and Charcoal. Keep us posted how they are doing.

We don't have any plants. I haven't mopped with cleaner in a month, there is nothing I know of they could have been exposed to. All cleaners are immediately put in the cabinet once done with. We have no mice traps or anything along those lines. All trash is taken outside immediately. We have no car supplies in the house at all. I am really at a loss as to what could have caused this.

They are indoor only babies.

We did get to see Sage today when we dropped Oskar off. She is looking better but they are still thinking she has kidney disease. They are going to run blood tests on Oskar and keep him overnight as well. She is staying again as well so they can test her some more.

Oh Charcoal, I'm so sorry to hear about Oskar too. You must be sick with worry!
I hope you are able to get answers soon and I will keep both of your kitties in my thoughts. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for all of you...
