Ok last week i mentioned that i found an opening for a shelter caretaker in a town near where i live.
Now i found the add through petfinder, and on the page it says "I want to help" so i click on it and it brings me to volunteers.org...Well i don't want to sign up through them beccause i know where i want to volunteer.
Anyways i sent an email directly to the shelter itself explaining myself, i had not heard anything back, i know it hasn't been that long and with the holidays i am sure they are busy. Today i called the shelter and got a machine (Hard to hear it, bad quality) but i left my name and number and what i wanted.
How long do you all think it would take for someone to respond to this. I am not complaing about the shelter, i guess i am just impatient...LOL

Any input on this??

Give them time. Over the December holidays practically every workplace is short staffed because most people want to take some time off during this period. I would give them at least another week.

You also could go directly to the shelter when they are open, and bring a copy of your resume if you have one (it makes you look more "official" so they might respond a bit faster...it can't hurt, anyway). Sometimes you have to show them that you are serious. They may get a lot of people who email for information and relatively few who really follow through so anything you can do to show them you are serious will help you.

Congrats on your decision to volunteer, and I hope you have a very rewarding experience.

Thank you Semi......I will give them some time as i know they are very busy and volunteers themselves. I thought about going there 2 reasons at the moment stop me..One is they won't give there address out on there site, they say to call for the location, and two, they are only open they say from 12pm-3 on Sat. and Sun. well i work sat/sat 8-4. Now those hours are for adoption really.
As far as a resume goes i don't have one, i don't have any experience with a shelter as this is my first, I can understand why they may respond faster if you do have one though, i am sure they get alot of calls from people who don't follow through.
As i typed that last sentence it got me to thinking i wonder if alot of people make new years resolutions to do this kind of stuff?? Hmmmm> i hope they contact me though, this has nothing to do with new years.
Thanks for the help.
