Yay for you! Max bought some patches on the weekend and is doing very well, but I'm still not there yet. Luckily I only smoke about three or four a day, so I'll be able to go straight to the last stage with the patches. It's pathetic, really, I should be able to just stop, but I've been smoking since I was 11 and it's really just very hard. It's the habit and the associated things, more than anything else. But I hate it, it's disgusting and it makes me feel sick, so I'll be joining ya, honey!

Good for you! And YOU CAN do it!
I quit cold turkey 13 years ago. (only way to go...at least for me!)
Keep yourself busy doing some "different" things for about 3 days (Things that you don`t associate cigs with)
After 3 days the nic is out of your body, so it does`nt create the physical cravings anymore. After that it is just the physological part that you will have to battle...but only for awhile.
I found that when I really wanted one after the first 3 days, that I`d tell myself I could have one in 10 minutes if i still really wanted it...but in the meantime I`d make myself real busy doing ANYTHING but sitting and thinking about it.....and the delay would work for me in such a way that I`d "forget" temporarily....longer than 10 minutes.....so then, if it was longer than 10 minutes before I thought of it again I considered it "too late " for that cig....and would promise myself I could have one if I thought about it and still wanted it in another 10 minutes...then get busy doing something else.(I got a lot of closets cleaned and books read during this time!)
Before long I`d realize that it had been hours since I thought about smoking...then a day would pass....then longer and longer till it just was`nt a part of my life any longer.
I must admit that even now, once in a GREAT WHILE, if I smell one that someone is smoking , especailly outside in the fresh air, there is a bit of an urge...but it passes very quickly.
Just think! No more smelly hair , breath and clothes. No more burn holes in clothing and furniture. No more yucky ashtrays. Better health.....and more $$$$$ to spend on something FUN!
I hope you do it! I know you can!

Congratulations! And good luck to continue with your success.

I'm in the same place as Sarah. I don't smoke that much, in fact I've gotten it down to 1-3 per day. But now I'm battling with myself - Do I REALLY want to quit?
Sad to say, but I do LIKE smoking. Or at least I like the idea of it. I've done really well the last two days at home - I lasted until 6:00 and 9:00 at night respectively before I really wanted (or got irritable enough) a cigarette.

Well I smoke enough for both of us, and the sadest thing about it is that it is effecting me, Last year the Dr told me I have the start of COPD, but the dumbest thing is that I lost my Mother to it, My hubby of 34 years to it, and now my former Father-in-law is in the last stages of Lung Cancer. I have tried 3 times to quit, tried the patch tried the pill and then tried the patch and the pill together, I have not been feeling well for over 4 months and I know part of it is because I continue to smoke, I personally wish they would just quit making them, I must be the biggest looser around, I can't say truthfully that I enjoy it, it's just very hard it's a horrible addiction, I don't know what to do or how to do it. I've failed 3 times and I just can't make a commitment out loud for fear of failing again, But on the other hand I have plenty of reasons to stop, I'm a mess.

Good for you! I am really amazed for those people who are trying to quit smoking. It must be really hard to quit.

My father in law's girlfriend was smoking since she was 16 years old, and now she is 44. When she met my father in law, she quit smoking, it was so hard for her.

Keep up the good work!

More power to you!

My aunt has dead bones in both of her hands, cannot work anymore, & still refuses to quit smoking. She just turned 40 a month ago. She likes smoking too much to quit. She would be happy if smoking kills her.

Another aunt's advice to her smoking siblings: put a pack of very minty gum where you always kept your cigarettes. That way when you reach ofr a cigarette, you have some very strong gum instead. It really worked for her!
