I went to the bookstore today and read a few cat breed books which gave me next to no information.....

But I did alot of reading online and took what you all said into account and I think I have narrowed it down to a ragdoll or a british shorthair.....

now I would love your opinions on these two breeds ......
this is a big decision for me, my husband thinks I am nuts to buy a cat but I dont see that it is any different than getting a purebred dog.

I found a ragdoll breeder in Quebec but havent found a british shorthair breeder... I would love any input you all might have.
thanks

Congrats on bringing another furmember into your family.
Here are some Ragdoll Rescue sites, that may be of help to you. I also have links to a few Ragdoll clubs that have available older Ragdolls that have been retired from showing or breeding. Good luck on your search for a British Shorthairs or a Ragdoll.

OK folks I think rescue is a wonderful thing.... I work in breed rescue myself but that having been said I am going to go to a breeder..... I have five dogs in this house and while they are good well behaved dogs they are dogs none the less.... I also have a parrot and another cat who I dont think wil ltake kindly to my adding an adult kitty.

I really feel that we will do much better with a young kitty so I am going to go to a breeder. What I am having trouble with is determining breed temperment differences between these two breeds and could use some help with that.... but while I appreciate the rescue information and I will check it out, the likelihood is that I will be headed to a reputable breeder.
thanks
