Ever since we got my female cat spayed she has been packing on the pounds. She is eating the same amount now as she was then. We have been feeding her the same food. I just do not understand why my slim little Angle has turned into an unsocial fat cat her life has not changed at all but yet she is geting fater by the day

PLEASE HELP SHE IS SPREADING

I dont know much about that, but I do know that spaying CAN have that side effect. I would suggest maybe excercising her a little bit, and feeding her twice daily with like a half-cup of food.

As for excersize, Maybe buy a new toy, or a lazer pointer. If you have a lazer pointer, when you finished playing with it, shine it on a toy or ball, so she can fulfill her need to catch something.

If you are free feeding her dry food, STOP. Put down a certain amount - even if she eats is all up do not give her more. And cut her food intake of what you are giving her. Say you feed her 1/2 cup twice a day - cut it in half and give her 1/4 cup each meal.

If you are feeding her both wet and dry - STOP - give her one or the other but not both. IMO wet will put weight on them faster then dry (unless you are free feeding dry).

I can say the time Kandie was a wet only girl her wt stablized ....

I recommend wet over dry since it is easier to digest , keeps them fuller

How much and of what kind of food are you feeding? Some people feed way too much without realizing it. Are you going by what the bag of food says? I think a serving is usually around 1/2 cup per day but it varies by weight. So if your cat is getting big then go a little less then what it says for her body weight. Brand is important too. Good quality food will keep her healthy in general and avoid otherwise unnecessary trips to the vet.
