I don't know where this thread belongs...

My two 1/2 yr old kittens used to be able to go outside now and then, which they loved. Now we are wondering if we should try to make them inside-only cats, but wondering how difficult this will be. Since they remember the outside at this point, and loving it, they do try to get out and will sometimes make it. We have kept them inside for the very most part lately due to the mud in this in-between weather we have. But they still want out.
If we keep them inside only from now on, as much as possible, do they forget that they used to be able to go outside? Or will they always try to escape out?

They are spayed now, so they can't reproduce now, at least.

I've had cats do both. Some adjust to becoming exclusively indoors, others never do. Depends on their personalities, I suppose.

My cat who has never been outside is more likely to be at the door trying to make a break for it than my other cat, who used to go outside some 8 or 9 years ago.

My first cat Clover I tried to keep in but he wanted nothing to do with it (maybe now I would have tried harder though). But my girl Autumn lived outside almost her whole life (about 1.5 years) before she was turned indoor and she wants nothing to do wtih the outside. She is soooo happy!

My kitties were strays and they still remember those days. They always try to bolt out the door. I wish I could make it where they could go outside and still be safe.

Missy was a stray until around 5 months old and since coming inside doesn't want to go back out even before she was spayed she never tried to get out. I guess it depends on the cat how they will react.
