My mother just called to say that my eldest great aunt passed away last night. She was very old, well into her 90's. This weekend we found out she wasn't doing well, but they hadn't told my grandmother. But when I talked with Gram last night she knew and seemed ok with it and in a good mood. Gram has has a tough last few years so we were concenrned how she would handle it.
So Please keep my Grandma and her sisters in your prayers. There were 7 kids in the family, 4 girls and 3 boys. All they boys passed away young and the girls were close till this great aunt moved a few hours away to be with one of her daughters a few years ago. She is the first of them to pass away.
I'm sad about it, but I have several things that she made for me around the house. She loved to knit and crochet. She used to make lots of white snoflakes, hearts, angels, and bells for decorations and give them away. I have a heart and 2 angels hanging off the mirror in my bedroom. I've always treasured them, now I treasure them more. She also made the angel for my mother's tree. I guess she'll always be with us that way. It's kinda neat that she waited for the new year to come before she passed away. Mom says she has a great peace about it, so she believes she is in Heaven now. I used to want to name a girl after her, maybe I still will, her first name was Michelinia, but the called her 'Meech' or Helen. She was the first child born in the US. She was the storybook picture of a grandma, plump rosy cheeks, a sweet voice and a sweet laugh, a very sweet smile.
Rest in peace my sweet great aunt 'Cioci Helen'. We love you always.
