I posted before about my CRF cat that has been my best friend for 17 years. She is starting to fade pretty rapidly. She has an appointment with the doctor tomorrow and we are going to get her vitamin B shots with a mild steroid of some kind to make her last days with us as happy as possible. She is probably down to 4 pounds and is peeing out more than we give her in sub-q. I won't put her to rest until she tells me in her eyes she has no more to give. Maybe with a small miracle she will perk up and share more time with us.
If she would only gain a little bit of weight. I am giving her fancy feast now. She really enjoys it and she has come to the point in her life where I am not going to try to torture her with something she hates to eat.

Please keep Mort in your prayers....

Oh Abbycats I'm so sorry to hear about Mort! I know you have been battling CRF for awhile and from what I have read, you are a very dedicated owner and parent.
When Kiaira was in her end stage of CRF, I fed her fancy feast too as it wasn't worth trying to get her to eat something she no longer enjoyed.
I will keep you and Mort in my thoughts.

You and Mort are in my prayers. I am so sorry. It is difficult to see them fade away like this

Originally the vet suspected CRF with my eldest, but we found out it was liver cancer or at least a tumor in the liver. I am facing similar challenges with her appetite. I'm certain that you have tried everything but do you have an Asian grocery nearby? A member here introduced it to me. They sell shaved dry fish flakes to use as a base for fish soup. We call it bonito flakes but it has several different names. I sprinkle that on her food and that seems to help to entice her to eat. I give her about three different cans of Fancy Feast just to get her to eat a total of what would be about 1.5 cans at this point.

to you and Mort.

I started a thread about my 17 year old, Bodi, who's in kidney failure. She, too, is back on Fancy Feast because it's the thing that tempts her the most to eat.

Please please tell me -- you say Mort's been getting fluids sub-cu. Do you do it yourself? Is it hard to do? How's Mort with it? We're going to our vet tomorrow or the day after to learn how to give fluids sub-cu and would really like to find out from someone who's done it what it's like.

I am so sorry to hear about Bodi. We have been doing the sub-q's on Mort since last June. She takes them pretty good. My husband is the one who inserts the needle and I hold her. She is getting hard to do now because she is getting so thin.

I'm certain that you have tried everything but do you have an Asian grocery nearby?
Unfortunatly we live in Rural Nebraska and our supplies are somewhat limited.
That sounds like a great way to entice their appetite! I am so sorry your baby is having to go through liver problems.

Mort just got home from the vet and she only weighs 5.5 pounds. He felt her kidneys and he felt a bumpy mass on one of her kidneys

We got medicine for her diarrea and she had a steroid injection for anorexic cats, and a vitamin B shot. The course of plan now is to keep her comfortable and happy in her last days with us. I cherish each day she stays with us.

I got off work early today, Mort is in bad shape. This is the day I dreaded the most. Her back legs are starting to give out on her. I called the vet and told them I may have to come in with her today to put her to rest, and let her out of her sick little body. ****crying*****
