I am assuming if the label said chicken instead of chicken-meal, this would be better???

Contrary to the rumors chicken meal is the boiled down parts of the chicken which is the skin and cleaned flesh. There are no feathers, bones, heads, entrails or feets in chicken meal.

Here is my favorite link that gives you the AFFCO definition of chicken meal
http://cats.about.com/od/catfoodglos...hickenmeal.htm

There are some who feel that chicken meal gives a higher per centage of meat, but as this link above points out, each company will vary as to how much connective tissue and bone is included, so I still think, imo, that having chicken vs chicken meal is preferable.

here is my understanding of chn meal... and yes unless you call and get the proportions of bones and connective tissue chn can be better..I like to see both but that can be hard to come by.. I like chn meal first then chn... I know the propotion in the food I feed and am confortable..

chn meal is like beef jerky ... the water and the fat are mostly removed leaving the meat in a dried form...

it takes 5lbs of fresh chn to get on lb of meal...

The way I view it, chicken is chicken with all it's water and glory, and chicken meal is the same thing, minus the water. So when it's been cooked, chicken will move further down the list because there's hardly any water anymore, so the amount/size of the chicken shrinks. Chicken meal stays the same size because it's not losing anything (water) and therefore if the ingredients say it's #1 on the list, then that means it's #1. If Chicken is said to be #1, after the cooking process, it's going to drop further down the list, like #5 and whatever's #2 is going to be the largest ingredient in the food. Of course, this is for kibbles. I'm not sure it applies to wet food, since I don't think wet food gets cooked.

I like it when someone can write in english( I am not great at it) /////

It doesnt apply to wet food since it is 75-85% water or broth ... I would be scarded if I saw meal in a can
