I will have to tell the boyfriend about this because he didnt want a cat in the first place! little did he know they could literally be lifesavers!

As reported by my local radio station:
CAT CALL
Police aren't sure how else to explain it. But when an officer walked into an Columbus Ohio apartment last Thursday night to answer a 911 call, an orange-and-tan striped cat was lying by a telephone on the living room floor. The cat's owner, Gary Rosheisen, was on the ground near his bed having fallen out of his wheelchair. The man said his cat, Tommy, must have hit the right buttons to call 911.

Is that not the greatest?

I heard a radio interview with the cat's owner, and he said he had been trying to teach the cat to hit the button that had "911" on predial; he didn't think the cat had been paying attention!
The man is handicapped, and commented on how much the cat has brightened his life since he adopted him from a humane society.
Pretty cool!

We might be reading about this on Snopes soon if it doesn't really check out. This is pretty difficult to believe, even if I wish that it was true, I don't think cats can be commanded to perform tasks such as this. Possible? I suppose, but still...

On a funny note, Letterman a couple nights ago had a cat next to a phone in the green room to see if the cat would knock the handle off the hook and hit a predial button on the phone. And guess what happened?

It's in the news. It's on the several news sites I frequent, and I know at least one of them (abc I think) had a short video interview with the handicapped owner with footage of the cat involved. It's probably an AP story by now.
