Hi everyone,
Its been a rough couple of weeks here, and it finally culminated in my losing my best pal of 14 years Jim ..... the coolest cat in the world and in many ways more like my dogs. We still have our Maureen a good girl but aloof and just not as friendly... she hides alot and is sweet but not a rough and tumble kinda cat.... I really am feeling a bit lost without Jim here.

I have decided that while I am not ready for another boy cat here, that I do want to add another cat to the family and that having been said I am starting to do my homework about what cat breeds are out tehre and what breed might suit our family. I know that there are many shelter kitties in need of homes but I really do want a breed with predictable traits... I do want a hearty rough and tumble affectionate kind of cat so I am looking and figured that once I figure out the breed I might get on a breeders waiting list.....

About us.... I am a University Professor of Sociology with a focus in race and ethnic relations and disability and a stained glass artist on the side. Hubby is an engineer.... we raise and show campion flat coated retrievers so we live with five retrievers and are expecting a litter of puppies late spring so a kitty needs to be able to live in this house and while the dogs are in control, they need to be able to fend for themselves to a certain extent.....

I am hoping to learn lots here about the different breeds and cats and introducing a new kitty to this doggy family.

Hi and welcome from Massachusetts!

I am very sorry for your loss of Jim. If you feel up to it sometime you may want to post a tribute in the Rainbow Bridge Forum.

I noticed you posted your questions in the Breeders forum. We have many knowledgeable members here that will be able to answer your questions.

Again, welcome!

I am so sorry to hear about Jim.

I hope you are able to get advice on the other forum. Even if you kitty doesn't end up with the personality you are looking for, I'm certain you will love him all the same.

Welcome to TCS

My condolences on the loss of Jim. It takes time to heal. For me, getting a kitten helped me deal with my grief when we lost Sunni. So did finding this site.

I hope you find your own peace. There are plenty of people here who are willing to help you along the way.

Oh gosh! I`m really sorry that you lost your little Jim. I know that your heart must be absolutely broken....and it is going to take awhile to heal from the pain of that loss. Our animals really are like little furry children to us and it is devastating when one of them passes on.
I hope that you find the kitten that you are looking for and that she will help to ease the pain and make you laugh again.
Our Toby is a gray/black classic tabby and is nothing but a ball of energy, but I`m not sure that it has anything to do with his breed, as much as just his personality so I would`nt count on that. (His mother was one also and she was just a sweet snuggle bunny that used to come to visit and lay around on our front porch waiting for a pet or a handout) He must have gotten his high level of energy from his daddy, whoever that was.
Bengals are very energetic....but you`ll have to ask the people who have them about how well they do with dogs, because I done`t know.
Best wishes to you .
Linda
