One of my kittens, Cookie, was in heat for about 4 or 5 days, but yesterday, she wasn't in heat anymore.
Everyone thinks she might be pregant, but im not sure. Is the first heat sometimes shorter than 2-3 weeks?

Are their unaltered males around that could have gotten her pregnant???

If thats the case it is totally possible that she may be pregnant....

I would suggest having her and anyother cats in the house spayed/neutered immediately...

You can spay a pregnant cat...It however does cost a little more......

How old are the kits if you dont mind me asking

that seems cruel, isnt that like an abortion?

Cookie is a bit over 9 months , and Freddie and Suki are both 8 months

Yeah it basically is an abortion.....However sometimes it is nessesary to choose this method, rather than bring more kittens into a very overpopulated world....Also there are many health benifits to spaying your cat....

It obviously your choice, and I dont want to pressure you into anything that your dont want to do However I just wanted to let you know that it is an option........

As for their age..It is definitly possible that she could be pregnant....My friends cat got pregant at 7 months

Yes and no.....

My friends (Well more like a friend of the friend) has all these cats...none of them spayed.....the two cats who mated were brother an sister, from a long line of inbreeded cats.....

So even though the mother did make it through the birthing, a few died, a few had hernias, one died a little later, and one was blind......

So yes 8 month old cats can get through the birth ok.............this friends cat just had a lot of genetics against her

Good luck though on whatever you decide......

sometimes it can be kinder to spay the cat when she is pregnant, not all cats like being mothers, especially young cats.

cats are prolific breeders so i would bet that she's pregnant

My cat was in heat for around 5 days so short heats do happen. I didn't let her near any whole males at the time. Most likely with access to a male your cat is pregnant...but just saying that short heats happen too.

If she has only been out of heat for a couple of days, it would be a very good idea to get her spayed immediately. At this point she does not know she is pregnant and if she has been impregnated, the embryos are still extremely undeveloped (barely visible to the naked eye) and may not even be attached to the uterine wall yet. Plus there is a good possibility that she is not pregnant, and if that is the case she may get pregnant at any time.

It is basically an abortion and it's definitely not a perfect solution, but spaying a cat who might be a few days pregnant is something to at least strongly consider.

If you decide not to spay her right away, please neuter your male immediately so that if she is not pregnant, she does not get pregnant when she goes back into heat in a couple of weeks. (Actually, please neuter him right away regardless!

well freddie is going to be neutered very soon, in about 2 months (after he gets his shots) were keeping a close eye on him around the female kitties ^^

If you dont mind me asking...

Is there a reason why you are waiting so long to Spay/ Neuter your kits....?

The only reason I am asking is that if money is an issue, there may be a few low cost spay or free clinics in your area...and even charities or programs...that way you can eliminate the chance of preganancy all together....

Good luck

its because of money, lots of things have been coming up recently, there are no free clinics, but there is a cheaper vet that we're taking the kittens to as soon as possible.

You need to keep the male away from the females...that will mean keeping him in a seperate room and not allowing him to interact with the females until he is neutered and they are spayed.

Also....you need to take the girl into the vet...she needs to be spayed...and she should NOT be allowed outdoors.

I understand money is an issue..so you definately do not want a situation where a cat becomes pregnant and then needs medical intervention. Best thing is to ensure that they cannot become pregnant in the first place.

we've been keeping him in the basement with our older cat as company,

we cant just get cookie spayed though, it costs money, and we dont have any right now, there all indoor cats except Jasmine.

were all very doubtfull about cookie being pregnant, we've seen freddie try and mount her and suki, he's jsut too young and doesnt know what to do.

So I'm going to assume that Jasmine is spayed....which would be a good thing if she is allowed outdoors.

How old is Freddie? Most vet's recommend that males be neutered around 5 to 6 months of age. I would not allow him to mount any of the females...it's just too risky. If you cannot afford to get Cookie spayed right now...she and Freddie need to stay away from each other.

I'm glad to read that the rest of the cats are indoor only. Please keep us updated..and again, no interaction between Freddie and Cookie until Cookie gets spayed....abstinence is best.

Deffinatly keep them away from each other until you can get one of them fixed. Cats are induced ovulators which means they can ovulate just from a male preforming 'the deed' even if they aren't in heat. My mama cat was only in heat for a few days her first few times and they were really spread out but now she goes into heat every 2-3 weeks for 6-7 days. So it's possible she's not pregnant but to be sure you should keep them seperated. Keep us updated!
