Zack walked outside to the backyard and left the back door open. After about 15 minutes, we didn't see Mittens anywhere! I started to freak--not only is he NOT an outside cat--he just had major surgery 2 weeks ago!
I started to get frantic, so we both went out with flashlights...luckily, he didn't go far. He was in my neighbor's driveway...when he saw me he knew he was in trouble so he hopped through the whole in the fence to the backdoor and started scratching at the door!
Oh man, I had to make sure he didn't hurt the area where he had the surgery....AH! He ran to his bed and took a nap--that was too much excitement for him--luckily, he is now feeling better to be escaping
So, what do you guys use as collars for identification that he wouldn't mind wearing?
I want to feel somewhat better if he escapes again and someone can return him to me!!

Bijou and Mika are both microchipped and wear breakaway collars. I must admit though that we don't have the collars on them all the time.

You must have been freaked out when Mittens got out.

I am so glad that you found your little boy right away.

Dexter & Sadie are chipped & wear breakaway collars with ID.

Candie,

I think you've had enough excitement in 2005. I hope that 2006 is better!

Yeah, no kidding!
At least my sweetheart is better than he was a month ago--that's definitely something to be thankful for

Candie, this is remarkable! Sierra and Mittens must have conspired how to horrify their Mommies on New Year's Eve!

Sierra just moments ago had a similar adventure! I had gone out to the car to get a gallon of water, and returned to see the door cracked open a bit. Serenity was sitting there looking at me, so thus began the frantic search through the house for Sierra. Not finding her, I grabbed the flashlight and ran outside (in my pj's and barefooted) calling her as loudly as possible. I found her in the front yard crouched down and scared. Picking her up to go back in the house, I told her how much I love her and please never to scare her Mommy like that again.

Mittens, no more outside adventures for you, either

Goodness gracious, Mittens! Not exactly the best time for your outdoor adventure!

It must be the moon. Little Saba got out today when Eric left the door open for the cable guy. But Sasha was right behind her. He cornered her in the bushes and scolded her for about 10 minutes, raising his paw. It was hilarious!

Thank goodness the kitties are safe!

Ulysses got out the other day and Tybalt was outside looking for him for 10 minutes. No sign of him. I went outside and called to him, and he came trotting up mewing sweetly like nothing had happened. He was fine and actually let me pick him up (not something that happens a lot with our formerly feral boy!) until he saw I was headed for the door. He tried to get away but I wouldn't let him go until we were safely inside. We have all kinds of critters here that would love to eat a kitty for dinner, so it is very dangerous for any of them to get outside!!!

Well I guess it was "National TCS Cats Escape Day"....cause Doofus got out too......

He got down to the bottom of the stairs....Looked like he was going out the door and then I don't know whether it was the traffic or something else.....But he took one look at the outside world, and bolted like a bat out of hell back in the house......

I think he learned his lesson........

I am glad all the kitties got back safe and sound.......Believe me I know what you all must have been going through...My heart almost bolted out of my chest...

Ahhh God bless our little monsters....

Maybe it's a reaction to the fireworks last night? Or the new moon? I'm glad the runaways were recaptured right away.
Jamie didn't escape today, but he has gotten out in the past, and hunkered down out of sheer fright, although he goes outside on a leash. Both cats are chipped, tattooed, and wear reflecting breakaway collars with ID tags. ZsaZsa has basically decided to move into our neighbor's house permanently, now that she has an amiable companion, but we'll probably leave her registered with me, since Mrs. R. doesn't drive, and just register Miezi (her new cat) under her name and address.
