On May 20th my cat weighed 7.2 pounds and now Dec 31st which is only 7 months later she weighs 6.6 pounds, is that pretty drastic in this time frame? She went to the vet yesterday for a complete blood panel and it all came back almost perfect except the vet said the levels for her liver were very slightly elevated and that we would re-test in about 2 months and compare. I have tried time and time again to feed her non low calorie food but she shuns it, my other cat 15 pounds is on a diet and all the 6 pound one wants is Royal Canin Slim 37, they get dry for dinner and for breakfast get Nutro pouches cat food regular non
diet, anyway she really eats quite a bit and nothing has changed in her diet and she romps and plays, she is approx 8-10 years old. I am puzzled at the weight loss. Linda

yes, she just had the blood panel yesterday and he said she checked out fine for diabetes and h.thydroism. She went back today and I had a urine sample done to also see if she has a bladder infection, which was the whole reason I took her in the first place, then was surprised she had lost weight as she did.

Definitely re-check her blood in two months. That will tell you if her liver is getting worse. My little Forrest had elevated liver enzymes and they got progressively worse. Ultrasound showed that her liver was very sick. She unfortunately did not survive the biopsies...
- I had waited and she lost a lot of weight in the meantime. I would suggest that you follow up in two months as your vet suggested and if the values have gone up - do the ultrasound and biopsy before your kitty gets too sick.

When you have her blood checked again, ask for the Free T4 test. Sometimes it can be more accurate in catching hyperthyroidism early.

have everything crossed for her. Although one of my cats (now at the bridge) had raised liver enzymes for 11 months before it developed into something more serious (and she wouldn't eat the prescription food), so it isn't a life sentence. About the senior food, while it would be good to minimise work on organs, it also has less calories in, so I wouldn't recommend it if you want her to put weight on (we work in kgs here, so don't know if 6.6lb is really light)
