I hope I am placing this in the right place!

I was wondering how many of you out there say the word meowing and how many people saying mewing.

I have a friend who say mewing and I say meowing.

What do you say?

I say both, so I won't vote.

Is there a difference between the two words?

One of our cats does neither. She squeeks (extremely high pitch, too - kinda freaky) instead. So that's the word we use for her.

Just the same, I prefer "meow." Mew sounds too close to what I have to do to the lawn every week.

Depends entirely on the cat and the circumstance.

On the whole, regular "speech" tends to be "meow" or as variation on that theme. "Mew" pertains more to kittens, and babyish behaviour. And then there's Fawn, whose speech is a breathy squeak most of the time -- not something I've ever heard from any other cat.

Can't vote.

English isn't my first language. That said, I use meow. In Finnish it's miau or nau.

I didn't vote, because I use both. Molly used to meow. Actually it was more of an Ack. Think of a really old woman with a 6 pack a day smoking habit. That is what Molly sounded like. Abby mews. She doesn't do it often, but when she does, it's a sweet little sound, except when she is doing it at 3:30 in the morning and she keeps getting more desperate for food and companionship. It then turns into a whiny little mew.

I can't choose between the two. Most of the time it is meow. But Carly has a language all of her own and oftens mews, chirps, howls, and has a special meow that sounds like a parrot say "herrow". She always has a lot to say.
