I went to get my hair done today and I'm really not happy with the color that the person put in.... I had wanted a red brown with some lighter highlights and... well I am RED with like... a copper blond highlight....

It didn't look this red in the salon... but when I got home in natural light I was like "OH NO!!"
It was over $200 bucks!!

I don't want to just dye over it cause that will just flush all that money down the toilet??!!

Even though it might pain you to look at it..I would wait a couple days before doing anything with it...you never know the colour may change a bit with a couple of washes?
If not I would go to another professional (ask around to see if anyone you know recommends a good stylist) and have them correct the colour mishap...I feel for you though..I've been there too!

most salons would correct the colour for you if you go back within a week.

i would ring them and ask to speak the the manager and explain how unhappy you are and see what they have to say.

Oh Beth what a bummer! I think the other two have given some good advice here. Why not combine their advice? Wait a couple of days and then if you STILL don't like it call the salon and explain how you feel. They should definitely be willing to do something for you. I'm so picky about my hair I can completely understand your feelings on this sweetie!

Ugh. I had to call the place and make a follow up for tomorrow. Its just TOO red for me. I told the person I really do like the color but for me to be happy with it I need something dark pulled through. My natural is almost black and to go from that to RED with like a carmel color.... too drastic and with my brow color it quite honestly looks stupid. I hope she isn't upset or anything because she worked on me for 3 hours today...... but I really don't care because I spent a lot of money and I don't like it on me... I think that with some dark pulled through I'll be happier.

I should have just kept it how it was. I get so mad at myself. I wanted to do something nice for me and now I just hate it. UGH

i'm really glad you made the call, many people would have been too nervous.

think about it this way, if you went to mcdonalds and ordered a big mac and they gave you a mcmuffin you would go back. its the same thing!

the mcmuffin might be perfectly nice but its not what you wanted!

Thank God for you Nicky. I've finally laughed at this.

Quite honestly I'll be upset if I get charged tomorrow but I'll pay it... I'm not one to make a scene.

Do NOT let her charge you for this tomorrow! In their business, it is part of the job description...if a client isn't happy with the results, the problem is fixed at no charge.
What did you tell her originally that you wanted done? That does sound like quite the drastic change for you.
A better option may be to take your base color down a shade or two and then add lowlights, instead of highlights. Many people don't even consider them, but lowlights are really beautiful and not such a huge contrast to someone not looking for drastic change.
Good luck! And speak up tomorrow...NO CHARGE!!!

luckily, it turned out great, even better than i had hoped for and she managed to make it go extra soft and shiny with deep conditioning treatment (no extra charge!).

Well I went in and I said that I wanted some red (not like lucille ball red) put in and some blond. My hair had grown a lot and it was 2 different shades from root to tip. So she was like well how about this as an all over and then some carmal highlights. I was like okay... I thought she ment red all over highlight and then some carmel ontop of that... not a FULL dye job. I should have spoke up but I just went with it. When I was in the salon chair and she dried it it looked GREAT but then in the bathroom I noticed a change... different light... so I thought that it was just an illusion. Well... the salon chair was an illusion... it didn't look like that at all in natural light. On someone else it would look wonderful... but me? no.

She shouldn't charge you, it was a misunderstanding. She could fix this very very easily by adding generous lowlights in a darker shade. It may still be lighter than you expected, but it will not be a shockingly light shade.

For $200, you should get what you want, not what the colorist thought would look good.

I just might have to treat myself to that too.

And maybe even take in the narnia movie after I get all spruced up.

Honestly the hair does look good but it isn't for me. I need something darker in it. My brows are black and my hair is red??? Nope!!! If the red could be a secondary color and the carmel a third and then a dark brown primary I would be quite pleased.

try searching for a pic of what you want it to be like as it will make the changes you want clearer to the hairdresser.

I'll make it easy. I'll say, match with my eyebrows and make it the main color. LOL That really shouldn't be THAT hard

Be careful with that one, too!

I do know what you mean. One girl did the same thing to my hair once....and then ARGUED with me that the highlights were not blonde. (I had asked her to do red with caramel highlights) Even when I went back for her to fix it, she and several other stylists kept telling me it wasn't blonde. Believe me, it was blonde.
And, I never went back to her.
