Well it wasn't all of them it was mainly Jordan, but once he's going he gets Maggie going. I can't figure out if this is behavioral or if he is really hungry. I didn't get home until their dinner time, but I fed them then got ready for bed. Well as soon as I went to bed he started his pacing back and forth on my pillow stepping on my hair. Then when that doesn't work, he starts banging on the closet door.
I tried giving them cat nip, he didn't want that. I tried laying down on the couch so he could lay with me (this has worked in the past, sometimes he needs 1 on 1 attention with out any other cats) he didn't want that either. So finally at 1:30 AM I got up & fed them. That worked I didn't hear anything out of them again until my alarm went off at 6 AM.
They normally won't let me sleep much past 5:30 AM. Here's the deal the vet that I had been working with said 1/2 cup of lite food a day. I'm wondering if that's not enough for him & he's hungry, or could this just be behavioral?

He at least THINKS he is hungry! My Kotton is 16 pounds - WAY overweight. I have her on the SD INDOOR formula as it is so big she cannot just scarf it down. I DO feed her just a few fingers full 3 x a day. Maybe you can measure his food into a bowl and then give it to him 2 or 3x a day but not exceed the amount he is allowed.

Just think if YOU suddenly had to go on a diet!!!!!! How many PEOPLE can't do it as they ARE hungry! It will take longer to get the weight off but the cat will be more sasiated(sp?) this way.

What kind of food do you feed? I have to get Kotton on SD WD or something of the same calorie and IF she does not lose weight on it go to the SD RD as no other cat food is as low in calories as it!

He's 12.1 # which is slightly over weight, but my vet said he was OK, but that he souldn't gain any more weight. They all get fed 2 meals a day 1/4 a cup each meal. They are currently on Nutro Natural Weight Managment. I was trying to mix in some wet food, but they make it very difficult. Basicly I have to lock myself in the bathroom to get their dinners ready if I'm adding wet food. I was trying for a while to add more wet food because of something I read on this site, but I get lazy. I guess if it means they will let me sleep I'd rather take a few extra minuets than be up all night.

to REALLY get him to lose or not gain NUTRO is not the answer. It has too many calories. Look up different foods and see the calorie content (less carbs less calories) and then maybe you could give him (them) 2/3rds cup - 1/3 3x a day.

Is it possible he wants some attention? A lot of times when my Callie wakes me up like that it's because I've not loved on her enough or spent good play time with her.

Short of persription food I've tried a couple differnt foods. I change over slowly & all seems to be going well, but then suddenly one or more of them will develop diarreah. I know my Levi has a very sensitive tummy & Nutro Natrual (weight managment) is the only food I've found that all 4 can eat with out a problem. My vet said that if he doesn't lose weight he'll be OK, but that he should not put on any more weight. It's always a battle because Levi (11.8#) & Jordan (12.1#) are slightly over weight, but Isaac (11.7#) & Maggie (8 mo & 6#) are not. The feeding schedual they are on works well for Levi & Isaac, Jordan obviosly has issue, & Maggie I think she gets hungry more often because she's still a kitten. Having a multiple cats sure makes meal time more difficult.

Here's what I would do:

First, give them canned food right before you go to bed. Split a 5 ounce can among 4 plates.

Second, don't feed them right when you get up. Take a shower, get dressed, make your coffee or whatever, then feed them. This way they won't associate your getting up quite so strongly with mealtime and you should have an easier time getting them to let you sleep.
