Hi all! I haven't visited in a month or so. Everything has been well until yesterday. Stormy, who turned 4 months old on the 21st of this month has gone into heat. She has all the signs....hiney in the air, hind legs prancing, rolling everywhere, the yowling, etc. etc. She has even made friends with one of the dining room table legs. And, the dog is of course her best friend now. All kidding aside, I didn't expect her to go into heat so soon. I thought for sure my last cat (that was 13 years ago) was more along the lines of 6 months. In any case, Stormy has an appointment on Monday to be spayed. Believe me, after listening to her yowling this AM (2:00), the phone call was made pronto.
I asked the vet if they spayed a kitten in heat and they said yes, it just costs a bit more. Is this normal or should I wait a few days for her heat to subside?...Not that I really want to.

They spayed Tryon while she was in heat and it didn't cost any extra. She came out of it fine and god know it saved my ears

Well, I wish I had known she would go into heat early (4 months instead of 6 months)....I would have had her spayed sooner, believe me. She is driving me bonkers with the constant yowling. The vet said the earliest they could get her in was Monday, but I am going to call this AM to see if they had any cancelations for today.

It is trickier and more time consuming to spay a female in heat as the blood vessels are wider - think the uterus may be slightly larger too

Most vets in this area won't spay a cat when she is in heat. They say it is to risky.

Lily turned 4 months old last Monday. She will be getting spayed the first or second week in Jan. Hopefully, Lily won't be like Stormy & go into heat already! If she is, can we come visit?

Uh, no!
I have learned that it costs more because yes the blood vessels are enlarged when they are in actual heat (cats are forever in heat though....estrus...so, it is hard to tell actually...kinda confusing, but whatever). I have learned that I am very annoyed by the sound of her constant yowling. I mean this cat/kitten is really wanting a boyfriend BAD!!!!!!! I have never seen this before at 4 months of age. If I had known this could happen she would have been spayed at 3 months. I have two boys (9 and 5), they think she is in pain. I have had to explain to them exactly what is going on....didn't think I would be having this talk until they were closer to 10-12.
HELP!!!!

One more thing.... I was wondering if anyone has any anecdotes to help a kitten in heat until Monday gets here? I have been holding her more and of course she sleeps on my pillow, but other than that she seems to be yowling (when she is not sleeping). Any thoughts on how to help her discomfort or relieve her tension?
