Ben is very unhappy these days.

FIRST it is just too cold for me to stand out holding his leash. It IS in the mid or low 50ies but I get COLD, so we have to stay in.

Also when I try to play with him, his younger "brother" comes and joins in and HE turns and walks away. He LOVEs his "brother" but is just not intrested in playing with him.

So Ben is sad, and keeps going from door to door and meowing to get out. He even knows when the clouds lift and the sun comes out, but THEN it gets colder.

Anyone have a suggestion on how to make my boy happy?

Are you willing to let your cat go outside without you? I let Captain outside and he always comes back in within an hour or so or a few minutes. (Always put a collar with tags on him though!) I completely understand if you don't though because I live in fear when Captain goes out.

Hissy just reviewed some kitty tents that were meant for outdoors... you could possibly get one of those and let him get some suntime.

Toulouse (my youngest) also likes to encroach on playtime with Captain, so we've taken to playing with Captain when he isn't around (or shutting him out of the room for a bit) or getting both of them dosed on catnip... at which point Captain is too far gone to get indignant.

Also, maybe a tray of kitty grass would make your boy happier. I know for Captain fresh grass is part of the "outside" experience.

Hope this helps!

Put on a coat! How do you think we walk our dogs up north when it's below freezing? 50's is paradise! Just put on a sweater, a pair of socks, and a coat.

Just dress for the weather, wear gloves if you have to- go outside and realize that it really isn't that cold- 50 sounds like paradise to me right now. We just got through a nasty ice storm.

It is funny that here in Ohio, after the freezing cold snowy weather, we are practically going outside without coats in 50s weather and in California they consider that really cold and in need of hats and gloves. My BF noticed that when he moved to CA for a year and he would be walking around in 50-60 weather in shorts and a hoodie and everyone there thought he was crazy.

Anyways, ya just put on a coat and gloves if that is really too cold for you. It could be much much worse though, and what if you had a dog?

Oh for Pete's sake, quit being a wimp and go outside with your cat.

You're in California?! I'm in Wisconsin where it's presently 25 degrees - put on a coat and take your cat outside for a while. 50 degrees would be heaven right now.

Your cat will enjoy being outside for a while.

I would personally wrap up. I have two lodgers, and one is mega playful while the other one (who needs the exercise) isn't, so I shut the mega playful one out of the room to give us some one on one time.

Yeah I guess I AM a wimp but these old bones get COLD! I WILL see how it goes with me in my winter parka
and gloves and a scarf. It would not be so bad if it were sunny and cold but the damp just really gets to me - so does standing around as Ben just sits in the back yard and wants out front where he goes here and there like crazy!
