That's the funniest answer so far.

It's late. Maybe this has already been suggested and I didn't absorb it -- but I think what happens is...

- women A B and C take the first trip to the far shore
- woman C brings the canoe back, and stays put while
- men A B and C take the second trip to the far shore
- husbands A and B stay with wives A and B, while husband C returns to pick wife C

I don't think anyone is left with an inappropriate companion?

In this senario when the 2 womwn are still on the far side of the river, and the one goes back to get her hubby and another man (she`s ok in the canoe with the additional man cause her hubby is with her) BUT as soon as the canoe reaches the far shore again, then there is still one of the 3 women there who`s hubby is`nt ...and she wouldbe illegal.
Sorry...but keep trying! :-)

YEAH!!!!!!!
Another senario is for 2 womwn to go over. One stays and the other comes back and gets out of the canoe.
Then all 3 men go over and get out.
The woman on the far side with the 3 guys gets in and goes to get the last woman and bring her back.
(I sure hope they can remember "WHY" they wanted to cross the river in the first place now!)
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

Okay, here's one that may be kind of easy:

The day before yesterday Cindy was 17. Next year she will be 20. How can this be?

Is today December 31st and she will be 20 DAYS old on Januaryd 1st

Jan 1 = 20 Days old = Next Year
Dec 31 = 19 Days old = Today
Dec 30 = 18 Days old = Yesterday
Dec 29 = 17 Days old = Day before yesterday

Am I right?

You're on the right track, Silly Jilly, but I don't think we need to mess with days. It is years, and I think this is how it goes...

Today is January 1st. Cindy's birthday was yesterday, December 31st (last year). So on the day before yesterday, she was 17; yesterday she turned 18; she will turn 19 on the last day of this year; and next year (the last day of it, but still next year!) she will turn 20.

You're right!

(Either these riddles are too easy, or Fran's really smart...

I just really enjoy brain teasers. I wish I could think of some to post, but I'm drawing a blank.
