ok, I got a kitten last week and im bringing her in for her first visit in a few days. I only have about 50 dollars right now, so all I can pay for at the moment is an exam. Im also getting Revolution, because I think she has worms and I know she has fleas. I want to get her examined further in a few weeks when I get the money, ex. blood work etc to make sure she is completely healthy, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with her. So my question is, what do I ask for in terms of tests to make sure there is nothing wrong, and how much would it all cost? (ballpark cost, I know its different everywhere.) The exam is gonna be $40.00. Basically Im asking because I never thought I would need anything other than an exam, and my cat Tigger had one just before she was put to sleep, and they said she was completely healthy, other than needing her teeth cleaned. She was far from healthy. She had kidney failure.
So any help is appreciated

Did this kitten have anything done before you got it?

Ok...she needs her first distemper shot, she should also be tested for FIV/FELV and dewormed.

BTW...does your friend need a low cost clinic to get her cat spayed?

I dont think she can do that since she has a lot of pets, doesnt have a lot of money to get her fixed cuz she d oesnt have a job cuz she has to take care of her son almost 24/7 (autistic) and i dont think she wants her fixed anyways...i think shes an indoor cat that got out by accident and mated with her sisters cat who lives up next door

Here is the problem with that....I had a friend who kept putting off getting her cat fixed because it was an indoor cat....but she ended up getting pregnant FIVE times! That's 30 kittens that were born from ONE cat because she decided not to fix the cat after the first litter because she was an "indoor" cat. Even if your friend cannot afford to get her fixed, she needs to contact spay clinics and get her girl spayed. Some clinics are willing to work with patients with low incomes. Now that her cat has escaped once, there is a very good chance she will try again when she goes back into heat.

I could only find 2 low cost clinic listings for canada..it's worth giving these organizations a call and finding out if there are any clinics that could work with your friend:

Animal Crusaders of Ontario

Referral to low cost vets

Richmond Homeless Cat Society

Here is an article on the sheer number of kittens that one intact female can be responsible for creating:

http://www.cat77.org.uk/articles/neuter.htm

It is important for you to know that I am not trying to make you responsible for your friend....but I do wish that I had helped my friend get her cat fixed after the first litter. Unfortunately, many of the kittens ended up having to go to a rescue and that took away spaces for kittens at the shelter who could have been rescued.
