Just wondering what the bonus situation is for all of you.
I got a pitiful raise this year and my boss just booked a Cruise for next month..

My friends and family say he is cheap for only giving me $100.

Am I being a pushover or is this truly not the spirit of giving to think this way and nobody should EXPECT a bonus anyway??

I do know people that receive upwards of $300 plus or other perks so I don't know what to compare it too...

I've been working here for 1 1/2 yr now, and I have not yet gotten a raise, a review, nor a Christmas bonus at all.

What really makes me mad, is that the owners of this place, are still living large in their $1.5+ million dollar houses, and say that money is tight...HA, yeah right! And that they just 'can't' afford to give anyone a raise...ok fine, but maybe if you were living paycheck to paycheck, maybe they would think twice. It just makes me mad to hear them say that when they are living very large in their mansions, and driving their $50,000 vehicles everyday. (end rant
)

But I know how you feel--since your boss just booked himself a cruise for next month, I'd be feeling the same way, a little mad!

Not that we should expect a raise, but its not to have someone praise you for your long hard work during the year anyways-you know? I'm sure that your boss got a Christmas raise himself?

How long have you worked there?

I only get a Christmas Bonus because it was negotiated when I was hired on other-wise there wouldn't be much of one.

Babyharley - it's time to march in there and ask for a review. It's been 1 1/2 years and you are more than entitled.

Oh I have - they just tell me, "oh yeah, we'll get around to it this week"...hmmmm....still nothing!

All of my technichions have been telling my boss how unappreciated they think I am and how they think I should get a raise, well at least someone is noticing! Lets just hope it rubs off.

Susan, you lucky thing, 7.5% payraise?
Enjoy that chick!!

I received a $500 Christmas bonus this year along with a Christmas gift from my boss that was more personal (Margarita glasses
). I received an 11% raise a few months ago as well.

I feel very fortunate in that he has always been very good to me. Last year for Christmas he gave me an Ipaq Pocket Pc because he thought it would be helpful to me in school along with a bonus. I actually dread finishing school and going to work in a hospital. I am not going to know how to handle that after working for my current boss for so long

I think that is horrible, Babyharley! To have worked somewhere for 1 1/2 and not gotten a review or a cost of living raise even?!

As for us, we NEVER get reviews as the place is somewhat informal. I am expected to maintain the background of the business while his wife "co-runs" it with me. This is laughable to the other employee's as she is very nice (but passive aggressive) but nothing like a leader or even competent to handle most things around here...So, for them to offer me a review would be laughable. I have brought it up actually though as I think regular evaluations serve to strengthen employee morale and guide someone in the direction you want them to go...

What usually happens is once a year, I or two of us will bring up a raise.
He will say that he will think about it and then will always offer 3 % of our annual wage (this is nothing let me tell you).
3% is really only cost of living and is the minimum (I feel) that an employee is entitled to...He gave me only almost half that this year! Which really does nothing but insult me...He ALWAYS says "things are tight" like your boss does.
But then there is the kick in the teeth I got the next day when he EMAILED ME HIS CRUISE ITINERARY!! Then the hardwood floor refinishers called for him and when I brought it up, the wife stated that they were having some floors redone..

I just think that if you want an exceptional business run the best way, your first concern is your employees. They are flexible in terms of hours or time off (which I don't take as I can't afford it!) but in a sense, they have to be..and it doesn't really cost them anything...

So, it bugs me when people treat the people that make the actual money for them, like dirt, it burns me up from the inside...

So, the Xmas bonus always seems like a paltry handout that is intended to shut me up for awhile...

Oh, I have worked here over 3 years (with never more than 3% a year)

Oh, Susan....7 %? Tanya----11%????
I am dying to hand over all of these replies to him.

Ok, how big are the offices/stores you all work in? How many employees?

Where i work it's a factory with me on reception and 3 other girls in another office along with 40 men on the factory floor and the sales office.

The building were in is over 35,000 sq ft which is really big for the amount that works there, but it needs to be because we manufacture signs and the flashing lights that you see on the fairground rides.

That's what I think makes the difference... There are 7 people working here now. But a little history... I have been here 3 years. For the first year it was just my boss, myself, and 1 other woman who was the accountant. She was stealing money and I was the one who brought this to my bosses attention. Then for awhile it was just him and I. Then we slowly increased to where we are now.

I work for a not-for-profit agency, and we never get a Christmas bonus. I used to get one when I worked as a cashier, but we earned such a paltry wage that it hardly made up for it! LOL!

We get about a 2% raise, and not every year. However, one year I just got to feeling bad, as if I wasn't appreciated. It was just eating at me. So I went and talked to my boss, and told him I get feedback telling me I'm doing a good job, but I really seriously feel like I need a raise. My immediate supervisor had told me "no way", but her supervisor, my boss, went up the chain of command and I got a really good raise. Sometimes you just really need to ask outright.

At Christmas time we get our Profit Sharing deposited into our 401(k), which is (for me at least) about 1 paycheck. We get our yearly bonuses the end of the fiscal year (end of September). We do get yearly reviews, where a week or so is dedicated to the owners meeting with each person individually to discuss their performance and give the raises. I've never gotten less than 4.5%, which is a bit more than cost of living increase.

At the last place I worked (an office of horrors!!), the only time there was a "review" was when someone was in trouble. They would make all kinds of noise about doing all employee reviews, schedule the one person who was in trouble and no one else.
Talk about ineffective management! Of course, I worked there for almost 4 years and got 1 raise of 50 cents per hour. It was bad! (Of course, these were the same people that asked if I would be in the next day the morning that my mother passed away!
I should have quit right then and there - would have saved me at least 2 years of misery!)
