She was rescued from a liquor store parking lot. Hubby just happened to be heading to the vets when people had come by to drop her off. The vet pointed out they're not a shelter, and unless they were willing to take financial responsibility, there was nothing they could do. They were going to return her to where the found her! He chased them down in the parking lot, gave them a piece of his mind, and took her back inside. Her eyes were glued together, her nose was so snotty she could barely breathe, she was completely emaciated, she was terribly sunburned (especially her ears), she'd been attacked by something and needed stitches in her leg... she was horribly dirty. I can imagine how terrible it was. Hubby said he was so glad I wasn't there.

She had to be tube fed, and the vet didn't think she'd make it. But she sure did! She was treated with antibiotics, got her stitches, got her sunburn treated, got her ears treated (she had an incredible earmite infestation - vet said he'd never seen anything like it).

It turns out she has a herpes virus. She did lose most of her hearing, though there are some frequencies she responds to, though we're not sure whether she actually hears them or senses them somehow. We fought to keep that eye though - and with the meds for her various illnesses, we had to medicate her 11 times a day for over a month, poor baby. But it was just too difficult on her, so we ended up having that eye removed. She also had a growth in her neck, which we had to have removed. I have a lot of VERY frankenstein-looking pics of poor Flowerbelle!

But she was just a fighter and a trooper through it all - and then she almost lost her life to an undetected lung worm infestation! That's when we found our new vet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is what she looked like after almost three weeks in the hospital (the first time I saw her):

Even so pathetic-looking she was just so cute!
That's such a sad story. I'm so glad your husband was there to step up and save her. I don't know of many people who would take responsibility for what I'm sure was an incredibly large vet bill for an animal they had never seen before that might not even live. That is anazing that you guys did that and gave that pretty girl a home.

She is an amazingly beautiful cat and I bet she will have a very good quality of life now.
