With the money my parents gave me for Xmas, I went out yesterday and bought an Oreck vacum cleaner. I'd been going back and forth between it and the Dyson Animal, but ultimately decided the Oreck was more affordable. I tried it out as soon as I got it home and was amazed at how easy it was to use and how good the carpets looked afterward - just like new. Sorry, I get excited about such silly things!

Now, I'm questioning the decision and am wondering if I should have forked over a couple of hundred bucks more for the Dyson instead. I'm so indecisive!

I had an oreck and it was fine for surface cleaning but lousy for hair and heavey duty... just my two cent s but I would have gotten the dyson

If you'd bought the Dyson, you'd probably be asking yourself if the Oreck would've been enough. Isn't it always like that? Anyway, congratulations on your purchase. I hope you get years of service out of it.

My Grandma just got one, and she loves it! I've used it at her house before and I would get one!

We've had one for a few years now and it's a top-notch vacuum cleaner IMO. I especially like how short in height or low-down it is for getting under furniture.

I can see how you'd get so happy...when we got our dyson we were too...and wow did they make the carpets look like new. Even though it was a lot of money it was 100% worth it as with 4 cats and 2 of them being long haired there is a lot of hair to get...LOL!

Does the Oreck pick up cat hair??? I have been considering this also for a number of months, but if it does not pick up cat hair, (4 cats, two long-hair and two short hair) I don't want to spend the money on it.

I've only used it once so far and it seemed to do great with the cat hair (I have four with short hair). It came highly recommended by several people I I know with pets.

My fiance bought me a Dyson Animal for christmas this year (I wanted one... he doesn't just think I should be cleaning more.
). I had been contemplating an Oreck before I decided I wanted a Dyson since I have only heard good things about both brands... but the fact that the Dyson Animal was made especially for pet hair won me over.

As for the Dyson... it is incredible. It picked up fur that I didn't even know was there. And you don't get dirty when you empty out the cannister either.

I seriously thought about a Dyson (sounds awesome) but just couldn't bring myself to spend that much money. Maybe someday.

BTW, Spike is incredibly cute!

I would have never bought it for myself... they are way too expensive IMO.
Luckily, he got it on sale and had a store coupon that took off a bit more. I can't blame him for taking advantage of the deal (although I'm sure it was still much too expensive... I'm a frugal girl.
)

And thank you! Spike now has two brothers - Pollux and Caster (fiance's cats), that I really need to post pictures of as well. Things are just too busy lately. Oh well.

Would love to have one of those super-vacs, but all we could afford was a Dirt Devil! We also got a free Hoover SteamVac from Craigslist, so it's a decent combo.
