My fish was dying. She was probably dying from having unfertilized eggs, as she is a live bearer, her mate died a few months ago. I am so sad at losing this fish.

If I'm like this from putting down a dying fish, what will it be like with a cat or dog??

I am sorry for your loss of the fishy, but you are right, losing a cat or dog will probably hurt even more. Condolences!

Losing any pet you are fond of is hard, no matter what species. It would have been especially hard euthanising the fish yourself.

Poor fish - I am glad that you did not let her suffer; the truest act of love is doing what's best for the loved one, no matter how hard it is on you. I would hope that when it's time to do the same for your cat or dog, a vet will be able to perform the task for you. Either way, losing a pet is cutting a hole in your heart. Condolences on your loss.
