I was wondering how many of you out there usually send out Thank You cards to those people who gave you Christmas presents.

I was thinking about it cuz I got really great stuff, and I think its always nice to send Thank You's anyways....but I was wondering if anyone else does this after Christmas?

Yep! I send them in the mail even if they live in town, so they can be reminded of my gratitude later.
It really is better to give than receive, so it makes them happy.

Most definitely. Always send a thank you. Nothing beats a hand written thank you card. When I was a kid, my mom would stand over me until I wrote every single person a thank you note, and to this day, I'm glad she instilled that in me.

I don't send thank you's normally, because anyone I would get something from, would be someone I would have given something to also. Like an even gift exchange and the gift you gave says thank you. Now, for my pet sitting business, I do send thank you's. Some of my clients give me nice prezzies for Christmas, and sometimes a bonus too!
I love my clients! But, them too, I give them a few free visits, they get more each year that they are with my service. That can be up to like a $60 value, depending on how many I gave them!

If it is a sent package from a relative I wont be with in person when I open it - I send a TY card. Same with any gifts received from out of state people.

I also send TY cards after attending someone's home for a party, a formal dinner, or after spending time in their vacation home. (I usually include flowers for the vaca one).

I am so bad at sending TY cards! I always mean well, but don't get around to it! I did write out several here at work for people who gave a gift and weren't here when I opened it. But I really need to send a card to my sis who drew my name in the family Christmas exchange...

Anyone else who stinks at this social grace?

Nope.

The people that send me stuff from long-distance are usually online friends so I either tell them thank you on here or I call them.

I either send thank you cards or call them up.

Maybe it's just me, but I think 'thank you e-mails' are tacky.

Well I only really receive presents from my family in my region so I'm there when they give it to me and I open it so I thank them then? since I see almost every member of my immediate family every week it would be silly to send a thank you card.

I've been bad about this in the past, but no more! I bought several boxes of Hallmark thank you cards and I'm writing about what we are doing with our wedding gifts (i.e. "we love the smoothie maker and have made some wonderful raspberry banana smoothies.") I'm getting better at writing in general, especially to my grandparents who usually don't use email. I just think that even a simple card, a real snail mail card, is respectful and necessary for most gift givers.
