has anyone ever experienced this before? i have a new cat that i got the beginning of march. he has been mounting one of the 2 resident cats repeatedly (sometimes 3X in a row). i am pretty stumped as to what to do. no one seems to be able to tell me if it will go away in time or not. the vet clinic only suggested amitripdolene (sp?) as a solution. i don't think it's *that* bad. i know that this is dominance behavior and i only found one article that related to my situation on www.feline-behavior.com.

will this go away in time once they establish a hierarchy?

thanks in advance.

the dominance hierarchy is established and obeyed by all the cats. If you have two cats who both think they should be "top cat", the mounting behavior will go on and on.

Everything I have ever read about this just points to how sexual they are. They say that it's not a dominance issue at all. Cats who want to be dominant over another usually make thier point by picking fights, spraying, or marking thier territory with feces. Is he neutered yet?

I was thinking along the same line as Sandy when I read your post. Is he neutered? It sounds like his hormones are acting up.
