hrmn... maybe, but then again, don't they start advertising Christmas in something like July?
I guess December isn't too bad a time to start..... it just gives ALL the MEN out there a chance to THINK about SOMETHING R-O-M-A-N-T-I-C FOR their GIRLFRIENDS!! (I simplified that as best I could there
just so the message sinks in!!

Yes, I have seen a ton of Valentine's Day stuff out already. I guess the companies sell more, make more, if they put it out earlier. But it's still very annoying and ridiculous, huh?!
But not as bad as Christmas commercialism. I've seen Christmas stuff out as early as August!!!

Frankly, Valentine's Day is worse than Christmas as far as commercialism goes. It's all about buying more crap for someone to "show you love her". If he loves you, it should be obvious every day of the year, not just one day that Hallmark and the diamond companies have taken over.

We go out to dinner and spend actual TIME together (strange concept, isn't it?). I don't want him to buy me stuff for Valentine's Day and he knows that.

I know a lot of people, particularly women, look forward to that day, but it's just another day to put pressure on men, IMO, to force them to be something that most of them simply are not.

That's very true...Jeff and I don't really celebrate Valentine's Day..it's just way commercial.

I think Valentine's day stuff being out now is ridiculous and I'm a business owner.
But speaking personally, I pay attention to what might interest my dh or myself, and ignore the rest re the commercialism. I agree, if he or she loves you, it is expressed all year long, but I love having a special day to emphasize how I feel towards my dh.

I suppose it is particularly special to us because we became engaged the day after Valentine's day - so it's a two day celebration.

I just have never seen it as a holiday just for men to express their feelings towards women
but then I tend to see things differently

My s/o hates Valentines day because its a holiday he's expected to do something for. I understand his point, but that doesn't stop me from wishing for a bunch of flowers everyonce in a while!

And I always try to do something to express my feelings for him.

But other than that, yes, I'm appalled that Valentines stuff is out so early. *shake of the head*

I like to try and celebrate Valentines day here, because they just don't in Denmark. It feels like it's a part of the UK I left behind. Christmas is totally different, and in the family, so are birthdays, easter.... everything that IS celebrated is done in an entirely different way, so Rune has decided that it would be nice that we had something that I'm familiar with. It was actually HIS suggestion!! I enjoy Valentine's day - not for the chocolates or the flowers or any of the stuff that is waaaaay over advertised... but for the little things. A handmade card or somesuch. Something that really does say "I love you"
THAT is romantic.

I freaked out last night when I was shopping and I saw Valentines Day stuff already!

I think some of the stuff is cute, but I don't really celebrate it much, but my parents usually send me a really nice boquet of flowers to my office, so I don't really complain...

Couldn't they wait until after New Year's? Is it really necessary to advertise something for over a month?

I love Love-Day, and I collect hearts, kisses, pink things, and stuff that is usually out for Valentine's anyway; the earlier, the better, for me!

It's just like a birthday. On someone's birthday, everything is about that person and nothing else matters or gets in the way. There's no feeling tired, being busy, disagreeing, and you do everything they want to do. Valentine's to me, is like a birthday for love. It's a day to celebrate your love for people in your lives without worrying or thinking about anything else. If you're in a relationship and you forgot the date you fell in love, Valentine's is a convenient day to celebrate it on. It's what you make of it.

That would be fun! Kind of like grade school, when we all handed out those cheesy little Valentine's cards! I still love them!
