Hey guys...

I have a nearly 5 year old long-haired cat named Witney (she's also been spayed). For many years now, on the weekends, I go to my boyfriend's place (she has those feeders that only need to be filled once a week etc. etc. so she always has food and water available when I am gone) and she's left alone on the weekends until I return.

A couple weeks ago...I come home and she pooped and peed on my bed. I figured it was probably just an accident...I slightly got angry and just washed my sheets and just constantly gave her attention thereafter and treated her no different. A couple weeks went by where I did not leave...I went to Petco and bought her a new kitty litter, cat dishes and cat scratcher. It seemed everything was fine, she ate and drank...she played with her new scratcher and went poopy in the new litter. However, she pooped and peed on my bed again when I left this weekend after 3-4 weeks of not leaving.

We used to have this problem with my old doggy...he used to poop and/or pee on people's shoes that he did not like. I initially thought that my cat may have just been not used to the litter, but I have seen her use it before I left...so I'm leaning towards she does not like my leaving her at home. I can't take her though, she does not like new environments and takes her a while to adjust and I don't want to stress her out.

Any ideas on how I can get her to stop pooping and peeing on my bed when I leave her??? I don't really know where to begin correcting this issue as she has never done this before really...I've also noticed she's become much more aggressive towards strangers. Normally, when my nephews and nieces comes in..if I'm in there, she'll just lay there and they'll let her pet her or she will run and hide. But this weekend she started hissing at them and smacking at them with her paws.

Help please...and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Please get her to the vet. She needs to be declared healthy before you look at behavioral issues, most times, this type of behavior is health-related.

She was just taken to the vet a month ago for her shots--they didn't mention anything out of the ordinary even though they did a thorough exam...should I be asking the vet anything specific?

It is completly possible for your kit to be ill, even though she visted the vet amonth ago......For example obstructions in the urinary tract can peak in 48 hours.....

I would just call your vet and say, "My cat is acting funny, his behavior has changed, and I would like to set up an appointement soon so I can have my cat checked out, and so I can discuss my concerns"......

Once health issues are eliminated you can discuss w/ your vet on how to deal w/ behavior issues.....

Good luck and I hope that all is well w/ your kit

Hi, I don't think she's sick (tho' of course get her checked if you feel the need), but I do think she's making a statement - "Please don't leave me alone on wknds". What are the chances your boyfriend could at least split the times and come and see you? How'd you like part time parents? She's reacting the only way that makes sense to her... she's hurting and that's her cry for help. Have you considered getting her a friend, so she won't be alone all wknd?

Thank you guys for your responses, I appreciate it. I will set up an appointment to the vet and get her checked...I read somewhere that sometimes they poop outside of the litter to let us know that they have problems...usually worms, but I think they did a fecal last time.

My boyfriend and I do alternate--he lives 40 miles, he comes one weekend...I come another and we've been doing it for years which is why I find her behavior quite odd since she only started recently. She only stays in my room (I live with my parents), but I leave the door open so she can roam throughout the rest of the house at night.

I would love to get another cat, but unfortunately--my parents won't have any of it. I would also love to take her along--but she's a pretty scared kitty...she doesn't like new environments. When we installed a fan light in my room she didn't come out of my closet for days! And that was just something "new" in the environment she's already comfortable with...I can only imagine how she would be in an entirely new one.

I think for now, I will have to buy a shower curtain and cover up my bed if I will be gone for the weekend--better safe than sorry...at least until I get results from the vet and figure out how to correct her very cute yet disgusting behavior
