Does anyone know how to make this....Oyster crackers with a package of dry Ranch dressing mixed in....the question I have, what do you use to get the dressing to stick, (oil, butter?) and how much? And is there anything else you put in? I love this stuff but don't know how to make it, and I happen to have oyster crackers and ranch dressing mix. And it's Christmas and no one's open and I have no food! Help, I'm hungry!!!

If you were closer, I'd invite you down to my place where I have ham, corn and a full pantry... as it is here's a recipe from Allrecipes.com... FYI, you don't HAVE to follow the recipe religiously... especially if you dont' have all the ingredients listed. my view of recipes is that they're a starting point. I did an ingredient search and this is what I came up with:

Seasoned Crackers \t

Prep Time: 10 Minutes
Cook Time: 20 Minutes \t
Ready In: 30 Minutes
Yields: 12 servings
"Serve these oyster crackers seasoned with dill weed, garlic powder and packaged ranch dressing as a snack, or as a garnish for soup or chowder."
INGREDIENTS:
1 (12 ounce) package oyster crackers
1 (1 ounce) package ranch dressing mix
1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
3/4 cup vegetable oil

DIRECTIONS:
1. \tPreheat oven to 200 degrees F (95 degrees C).
2. \tWhisk together the oil and seasonings; add crackers and toss to coat evenly.
3. \tSpread evenly on large baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes. Stir after 10 minutes and continue baking 10 minutes more.

Hope that helps!!

Aw, Amanda, you rock! Thank goodness I can eat now! Haha, it's not that bad but I am subjected to picking through the last of my pantry, which includes a choice between some rice au gratin and possibly some fried potatoes, after cutting the eyes off!
Tomorrow I'm going grocery shopping! Thanks again!!!

You're welcome...

there's a cookbook that has a list for basic pantry items... granted, since I came from a household that had heavy kitchen usage (much more than the microwave) I always had these items, ocne I got my own place. There are more cookbooks for single folk out there now, but this one, IMHO, is still the best. It's called Going Solo In The Kitchen. A lot of great recipes, including desserts... all scaled for 1-2 people. Lots of tips for shopping as well... Now, my kitchen would be fine for most people my age. Mostly becuase most of them don't cook like me. However, I love cooking and have a huge variety of stuff, from utensils of all types, to pasta and falafel mix. Canned goods are vital as well. even if I have no meat or fresh veggies, I can at least make up a meatless batch of spaghetti and sauce... or make my own sauce (though, I'm woefully bad at sauce making...) If I'm running LOW on things, I stock up. Makes for a royal pain when moving between places, but hey, I'm in a place for at least a year each time.

Back to configuring an IKEA shelving unit into a cat tree. I'm bored, nothings open, and I have a wooden shelf unit that I was going to get rid of... why the heck not?

Well it doesn't look like I'm going anywhere for a while, so I'll stock up tomorrow. I usually do stock up with MY basics, tuna, cream of mushroom and tomoato soups, macaroni and cheese and spaghetti and ravioli in a can for those quick, no time to eat emergencies, and noodles....gotta start getting more veggies, I can't do fresh (go bad TOO fast before little lonely me gets to them) so frozen it'll have to be...
I'm going to get that book or ask for it for my birthday next month. Sounds like my kind of book. I love cooking too, but with whatever is making my head fuzzy these days, I end up burning it or myself, or dropping it (which I did to a lovely meatloaf a few weeks ago
).

Shannon - the seasoned Oyster Crackers are also one of the things my grandmother (mother's side) always used to make! Too bad you aren't closer to me, either...sounds like we're practically having the same ideas for foods for Christmas!
