I've been getting loose catnip for years now, and JoJo LOVES it, while Jack could care less. Now, the toys I usually get are balls and that sort of thing... things that can be thrown and will keep moving as they hit the floor.

Well I did stockings for JJ and Jack this year. JJ ran and hid as I pulled things out of their stockings, but Jack came out at the sound of the noise, and is playing with the toys. I bought toys and treats. I wish I could afford a big cat tree for them, but small stuff is all I can get. NOw, Jack has favorite toys, I've seen this before today. Jolly Moggy has some cool little rubbery throw toys he loves. This cat NEVER reacts to catnip. Until this morning. He's ignoring the balls and JM toys... he's going after the 'nip mice and JM cloth toys with 'nip in them. I have pictures... I'll take more later and post them then.

Needless to say, I'm buying more cloth 'nip toys now...

It's probably the quality of the catnip. Jamie always ignored catnip till I got him some Boogie Mats, and he went absolutely crazy over the catnip that came with them. Last summer I picked up a little pack of cloth and catnip mice (5 for $1.00) at a supermarket, and he loves them, too.

I'm out in the country, and we have catnip growing like weeds in the yard. My kitties LOVE it...it makes them crazy!

I bet due to Christmas, the stock was moving, and you got fresher catnip! Glad he's enjoying it!

I guess the locally grown 'nip just isn't good enough for him... see the loose 'nip i sprinkle on the carpet for JoJo is stuff I buy fresh at the local farmer's market in the spring, dry it myself (maybe i'm not drying it right...), and crush it up. If someone here can tell me how I SHOULD dry it, to retain most of its potency, I'll try that next year.

Amanda (now sick, and kept up all night by Jack playing with toys around the bed... ugh)

I have no idea, I just pick it fresh and give it to them. I have thought about drying it, but have never done it. How sweet of you to buy it for him at the farmer's market! Like I said, it grows with the weeds in my yard...wonder if I could grow enough on 4 acres to support myself? Then I would have more time for TCS!

once, when I got the 'green thumb' itch at my parents' house, I claimed a patch of garden space and bought a bunch of plants, including a catnip plant. That didn't last a week. Mind you, my parents' do the 'outdoor cat' thing, so I'm sure someone discovered my 'nip plant and had a ball.

There's a dealer at our meager farmer's market downtown during the warmer months... one dealer has fresh herbs and usually has 'nip in bunches. I buy a cheap little bunch, spread it out on paper towels and dry it. I'm just wondering if putting it in the oven, on low, would be better for keeping in the oils... I'll find out someday... maybe next time I buy some.

We have catnip in our garden, which seems to attract every cat in the neighborhood, but Jamie doesn't like it. He only seems to like organic catnip imported from Canada.
