I support TNR. I wish there was a program in my area. There are so many feral cats in rural areas that really need to be neutered and helped with TNR. I think it's terrible when shelters kill cats because they find they can't "socialize" them into pets after all.

Feral cats do have a home and family. Just because it isn't inside a persons house doesn't make it wrong, just different.

There is so much intollarence to differences in the world already. Speaking out against Feral colonies is just another example.

Becky Robinson, national director of Alley Cat Allies did an excellent job of rebuttal in my opinion - the fact that we would blame ferrals for wildlife depletion while totally ignoring man-kinds impact is a sign of a very bias and near sided presentation

TNR isn't the best solution - responsible pet ownership is but until we can get that to happen 100% of the time so there would be no ferrals then TNR is the next best answer - personally I can't think of a more realistic solution.

Mankind is the cause of this problem funny how so many wish to escape this truth by blaming ferrals-

I have limited experience with one ferral who we caught- she was a sick baby - we got her well - sterilization and vaccination went well - but the release part umm never happened.

Hi Smitten!

Hahahahaha, I too am familiar with that "uh-oh" of TNR - when you simply cannot bring yourself to return a formerly sickly kitten that you've helped nurse back to health, back!!

Good colony caretakers feel just as bonded to "their" cats, by the way, as many ordinary pet-owners. Given the proper support, a caretaker will not only provide regular food and care, but they will also get sick-pet help for the cats if they need it (most never need it).

It's very unkind of people to think that condemning feral cats doesn't hurt PEOPLE, too. Teaching children that destroying animals "works" is simply wrong, and leads to many other social problems, and children (and others) are usually smart enough that when they DO learn about TNR, they think pretty badly of those who chose death.

Kindness, Compassion, is the way

Best,
Linda

Because I have an aversion to being on the business end of a shot gun I never go onto people's property without permission

The care taker of Ferocious' colony gave us permission to capture her. When asked he told me I could keep her as long as I wanted to. He was sure she would like living in my house better than living under his. This is a small town so every one knows every one else.
