The base of my cats tail smells really bad!! Does anyone know what causes it? It kind of smells musky! I read some things about anal glands but he is not dragging his butt on the floor. I have noticed this smell before and it eventually goes away, but it is really gross. When he lays on my bed it gets on my blankets!! Gross!! I washed it last time but it is not going away! What is this and does anyone have any suggestions? thanks!!

If the base of his tail is greasy it could be stud tail-

If he is letting out bad smells, it could be what you are feeding him

It could be parasites

It could be he is not cleaning himself

Has he been to a vet recently?

They also have anal glands that can clog and when unclogged be really smelly. My kitty does not drag butt. From time to time she just lets loose a clog and is really stinky. I have to clean her up and then she is fine again. I have learned to give her a little squeese from time to time to keep things open.
