I know that Percy sometimes does this, takes these little adventures and disappears for a few days. But, he's been gone for over a week, and it's so cold....I have a bad feeling.
He's my smart boy, living outside for over 3 years now. Please send some come home vibes this way. Thank you, everyone.

Percy, it's not nice to worry your Meowmy like this! Please do come home soon...

....I'm hoping he is safe and will soon come back to you. I do hope he is okay, this is worrying me too.
But, he is strong, I think everything will be alright.

I read everything at the site, hissy. Thank you.

Unfortunately, we live in a very rural area. Our only neighbor is one mile down the road. There is a barn across the way that I have already been over to check. I never know how far he goes when he does this, or where he goes. The longest he was ever gone was 2 weeks. He worried me to death, then showed up one morning to eat like nothing had happened.

We checked all the ditches and culverts, grain bins, etc. No sign of Percy. I'm not giving up. My hope is that he will show up like he did that one time. Until then, I just worry.

If you have any other suggestions, taking into consideration the environment and such, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again, everyone.

When they are outside like that, unfortunately they are open to a lot of dangers. I have had coyotes take my cats. I have had cats just vanish and never be seen again, or found them on the road.

I have also had one disappear for over a year and one night I got a frantic phone call from a farmer up the back road asking me if I was "the crazy cat woman?" I told him I was, and he said he had a sick cat, could I please come over and help? I grabbed my kit and took off only to find his cat was my cat that had vanished!

I also found another one of my cats that vanished in the window of someone's house. She saw me and the dog and went nuts, and I ran up to the door and pounded on it. I took her home that night-

So really anything can happen, and the best you can do is keep up the routine- food in the same place, fresh water, etc... I have found the best time of night to locate them is between 2:00 -3:00 a.m. Just watch out for night predators-

Good luck!

Also if you can swing it financially $60.00 you can contact Carl Washington and he will send you a map of your place with all the prime spots your cat might be hiding. I used him about two years ago, and his map helped me find Kabota who had been missing for a month. He was hiding out in the blackberry bushes two farms down-

Let me see if I can find his website addy

There are a lot of dangers for cats in rural areas. But we are all praying for your sweet PERCY. Come on home, now kitty. You have had your fun, now come home for Christmas. Keep us posted.

Oh my gosh, what a great site! I had never heard of Carl Washington.

I'm keeping Percy's food and water out, checking periodically throughout the night (the one time my insomnia actually pays off ha ha), doing everything I normally do.

Today I went out and checked our barn again, even more thoroughly than before. I don't see any signs of Percy at all, just Cassie (who has been spending more and more time in the house).

The longest Percy has ever been gone was 2 and a half weeks, so it is possible that he will return again.

There are so many things that could happen out here, you're right, hissy. I'm not sure that I will ever be able to get used to losing these cats that decide the outdoor life is better for them!

Just the other day, there was a coyote out in the field by the house. I know they are out there and that they are a danger for cats. Percy has been able to outwit them for 3 years, I'm hoping that he has continued to do so.

It is possible he is locked up in someone else's barn somewhere down the road the other way, as well. I would love to get that phone call asking if I'm the "crazy cat lady"!

Thanks everyone for your well wishes and advice. I will definitely keep you posted.
