I have a 20 month old Siamese cat named Cocoa. I took her to the vet 3 weeks ago because she couldn't stop throwing up. The vet took an x-ray and noticed a 1/4" round something in her stomach. He gave her fluids and sent her home. Since then she started eating again and stopped throwing up. But now she'll only lick the juice from wet food. She's drinking too. Her bones are starting to jut out. But her coat looks good. She has been sleeping all day and night. Is there anything I can do? The vet was really expensive. Please help!

You can give her baby chicken food. I would also concider a different vet!

She has to go back to the vet. She may have a foreign body in her stomach that needs to be surgically removed. Regardless, weight loss and not eating are very serious signs and she must go to the vet. Take her to the 24 hour emergency hospital if your regular vet can't see her today.

I know the vet can be expensive, trust me, but you have to think of Cocoa.. you are her caregiver, you are the only person that can help her if there is something lodged in her belly. You are responsible for her.

I volunteer at the local shelter and I always remind people that although a cat can be a warm companion they also have medical needs just like humans. If you can't afford some medical care I just don't think it's responsible to own a cat.

Maybe you could look into getting pet insurance if the costs are getting too high, especially if the little baby needs surgery.

Best of luck, and be sure to keep us updated

She probably ate something (penny?) that is in her stomach,
and needs removal. Expensive? probably so. But, ask the
vet to put it on a payment plan and pay off slowly. Many vets
will do this if financial is a consideration.

She definitely needs it out. Also to get her to eat better -
baby food with NO onion powder or garlic in it... beef, chicken
and or lamb... they like that. Tuna juice from tuna packed
in water... soak some of her dry food in it till its VERY mushy,
and add a bit of extra water...

Do NOT allow her to not eat for more than 3 days or she'll
get fatty liver disease and possibly die from it.

If she will not eat at all, get baby food mixed with a bit of
cat milk (buy in the store in cat food section) in a
syringe and then force feed her...

Good luck and please do get her to the vets and have
this body removed.

If you cannot do it (finances) surrender her to a NO KILL
shelter where they can do the medical treatment
and are going to find a new home for her. Don't give
her to the animal shelter who will probably put her to sleep.

I went to the vet this morning and they will be removing the object out of her stomach tomorrow.
I realize that vet bills are expensive, I was looking for alternate suggestions to surgery. Just as an FYI, removal like this will cost around $3K.

Holy smokes! I would find another vet. My cat had an obstruction last year and it was $500.00.

OMG!! that IS expensive!! I agree - call around a few other vets and see what sort of price they are offering.

I sure do hope that Cocoa starts to feel better real soon - poor little thing

3K is high. Get the vet to break the bill down BEFORE you do the
surgery. Also, call around to other vets. Smaller practices sometimes
charge less than the big "fancy" ones...

And good luck with the surgery! Rooting for you 2!!
