I was wondering what registry everyone would suggest? I have a traditional Siamese...and I was reading the two Traditional registries. Are they reputable? I know in the dog world, the CKC receives alot of negative attention for being a ''paper'' mill...does this also exist in the cat world? Any help or advice anyone could give would be much appreciated! Thank you very much!

You would only be able to register your traditional Siamese with the association which holds his/her parent's registries first. Once that is done, you can explore other registries.

Out of curiosity, which "two Traditional registries" were you considering?

My cat does not have any pedigree. He was one of the kitten's out of my Aunt's litter of Siamese. I hope this isn't frowned upon by ya'll as far as me trying to register him. I saw on the website they could be registered as ''foundation'' stock and if they bred true, after eight generations could be admitted into T.I.C.A. or C.F.A. I really do love my cat and would like to have his ancestors with me forever...I know that may be selfish, but it's true! I hope that I won't get flamed, since we can all understand the connections we share with our pets

How are you going to breed him "true " for eight generations? Do you realize that's a whole truckload of cats and kittens for 8 generations. That's not just breeding this one cat eight times. It means that your cats offsprings, offsprings, offsprings, offsprings.offsprings, offsprings, offsprings, offspring would finally be registerable. In the meantime your producing hundreads of cats that are not pedigreed-what about them? Will you keep them all? How are you going to find homes for hundreds of cats? All that just so this one cat that you love will be in a pedigree?
Im not judging you but it's just not realistic for one person to be able to do this and it's certainly not fair to all of the "by-products" (for lack of a better descriptive term) of your trying to get your one cat in a pedigree.

I had thought in my mind that I would let all the kittens go to pet homes with a spay and neuter contract with papers from one of the ''Traditional'' Registries...would it be in the best interest of everything if I just didn't want to breed my cat?

[Edit] Oh! And I may have came off wrong! I wouldn't want to breed just to be in the CFA or TICA! I would most gladly use the TCA for my registrations...I was just worried about people frowning on that registry, like the CKC.

The registries you mentioned will allow just about ~any~ cat who looks even remotely Siamese to be registered as a "foundation" cat with absolutely no proof that cat is, in fact, a Siamese. That is why reputable breeders will not support them. Additionally, even if you were successful at "breeding true" for eight generations, the more reputable registry associations do not recognize pedigrees from either of those organizations for the very reason I cite above. So, by registering your cat with either or both of these organizations and then breeding her, you are creating cats which cannot be registered anywhere else - does this sound like it is a good thing for the cat or does it sound like a good thing for the registry?

The prime objective in breeding is to BETTER THE BREED - not the registry.

What you may want to do is find a siamese breeder who belongs to the CFA and/or TICA to be your mentor. Sounds like you would like to become a breeder, but the kitten that you currently own is not a good candidate. The breeders here could probably assist you in finding a mentor.

Wow! It sounds pretty much like those two registries are the CKC of the cat world...Thank you all for your help and information! I think perhaps it would be best if I didn't breed him.

Most people don't recognize the smaller "registries" as being a legit one - they think of CFA (mainly) or some of the other big associations that put on shows.

I suggest you spay/neuter your cat and love it that way. Even if you breed your cat, you have NO guarentee that it will be similar in apparence or temperment of the one you have. And even if you find another "traditional" breeder, you probably would not be allowed to breed to their cats.

Your cat will be much happier and healthier to be neutered
