My Scottish Fold cat, Sweetie, walked on my table by a lit candle, and half of an inch of her fur got singed off on her left side of her body! She's fine, but her coat is kinda screwy now. I'll post pics as soon as I can!

Oh the poor thing! she didnt get burnt did she? don't worry, I am sure her coat will be back to normal in no time, reminds me of the time Monty licked the heater - no harm done, but the expression on his face was priceless!

OH GOODNESS--HARLEY DID THE SAME THING LAST NIGHT!!!

I had a candle sitting on the table and he jumped up and didn't know it was there, but I caught him in time, but he kinda um, burned some of his whiskers on his right side, they are just a little singed on the ends....it looks so silly cuz they are curled up where they got burned, but they aren't really short or anything-just a little bit on the ends got touched, but he's okay, I blew out that candle right away! I felt so bad!!

The cats house, we just pay the mortgage..
I thought by the title of your thread this was going to be something to do with superstition..! glad shes ok! bet it took 10 years off your life. It will grow back though.
the other night mark was just finishing cooking and had been using several rings on the hob. Nismo was up on the counter but i was watching her, she walked over to the cooker and started doing this kind of dance and i thought what the heck is she doing?? then mark went 'OH MY GOD!!!!' and we realised she's walked over a hot ring. we put water all over the counter and stood her in it and tried to run her paws under the tap but thats now easy with a 10 week old.
She was absolutely fine, i think she just got a shock, i could only hold my finger on the ring for a second or so, so it must have been hot for her but i think they are thick skinned... i felt like a terrible meowmy

You never know what cats are going to do. They have to be tended to and watched with caution, just like children. I am glad all your cats are okay.

Samson is really bad about doing that!! He just walks right over the top of them. Drives me crazy!! The burnt hair smell is awful!! When I grab him down he just looks at me like I'm crazy.

Yeah, It'll grow back. She never goes on the table, so I didn't expect her to go up there, especially that close to a flame! It was soo hilarious, though, because the whole house smelled like burnt hair. I'm so glad she's ok though.

ewwww, i hate that burnt hair smell, I remember once when I did work experience at a vet, a cat had a get a cyst or some kind of growth burnt off, and that was the smell in the small room with the door closed, i dont know how the vet did it, I had to leave the room because I was about to decorate it with my breakfast

No worries it will grow back. The first week I had Sibohan she decided to sniff a candle she lost all of her wiskers on the left side of her face, she looked very lobsided for a while but they grew back. I think we all have to learn the lesson as pet owners. Now I don't light Candles in my home unless I am right there or the candle is out of reach of the cat. Duke my mom's cat (now my other baby) singes his eyebrows off looking into a pillar candle his first christmas. they grew back too. BTW I love scottish folds I need to see pictures *Smile*

Sam singed off a few whiskers at my mother's house last year.....but they grew back fine. Once, though, months later, he showed up in the kitchen with noticably shortened whiskers and my mother and I couldn't for the life of us figure out what he singed them on...there were absolutely no candles or any heat sources around at the time.....maybe he figured out how to use scissors and gave himself a trim?!? lol

My cat jumped next to one of those tart burner things and spilled some of it on his tail. I checked him for burns, he was fine, but he had wax in his tail fur. He wasn't too happy that I cut wax out of his fur, but all's well that ends well.

Aww that must've hurt him, though. Right? Because whiskers are used to feel around in the dark, so they are extremely sensitive....But he's okay now huh? Oh Harley, what will we ever do with you??

Once Emily walked by and caught her tail on fire..the bad thing is, I didn't know she did it, I was in the other room and heard a loud thumping noise. Well, loud thumping noises are common in this house of 7 cats and 2 dogs, so I didn't think much of it until I smelled burned hair...then I went out and found her sitting there with HALF of her tail hair burned off!
I had to hold her down and trim the black stuff off with scissors...it STUNK!!!

I explain to everyone I know that I love candles, but won't burn them. Everyone always asks why. I tell them because none of my cats remember they have tails, and I have visions of explaining to the vet how they burnt off their hair and then to the fire dept. just how my house burnt down.
And everyone thinks I'm just being funny or exagerating! I'm going to have to tell those people about this thread!
