...What kind of software do you need to make decent siggys? Is it expensive? I was thinking I might try and get it sometime if it isn't too pricey so I can make my own signature sometime, and maybe a few for other members on here in my spare time.

(Not sure if this belongs in Technical Help or here?)

I know a lot of people use Photoshop, and yes, it's quite expensive and challenging to use.

I use photoshop - it is quite expensive, about $600-700 US - fortunately my boss bought it for me for a project I was doing so my version was free (for me) although they do offer a free trial for 30 days if you want to try it out.

WHOA there-- $600?!?? Forget it!! Thanks to both of you for the info, though.

Is there a cheaper way?

I am sure there are cheaper programmes, photoshop and PSP are preferred because they have so many features which is why they are expensive. However, photoshops newer versions do not have much extra for your $$$ and you can prob find PS7 for a decent price and download a lot of the extras from brush websites etc

I use Microsoft Digital Imaging Suite 10 -- it does what i want it to-- i picked it up at a local salvage store for under 20 bucks. It normally retails for about 100$ or so. Its a good digital photo editing software. Im still learning about itbut i love it.

I use Photoshop, as well as Paint Shop Pro. Photoshop is expensive, but PSP is quite a bit cheaper. I like Photoshop a LOT better, but PSP will do the trick.

I downloaded a free program called Photofiltre http://photofiltre.com. It has a lot of great features for making sigs. I made mine thru this program, I still have a lot of learning to do though but it's pretty fun to play around with.

I'm just learning how to use Paint Shop Pro X, which I got (early) for Christmas. It retails for about €95/$114. If you get it, I'd recommend getting the "Paint Shop Pro 9 for Dummies" book, because the directions included in the software aren't too clear.

I use Paint Shop Pro (version 8) and I have found it fairly easy to use for photographs. I've been following the product since version 3.

Another option for Photoshop is Photoshop Elements. It isn't as full of features as the full version of Photoshop, but it can still do more than basic editing of photos. It does allow for layers, and has a lot of editing tools, but isn't nearly as complicated as Photoshop. Also, it's a LOT cheaper! It runs around $100 or less. I've seen it at a good price at Sam's Club (although honestly didn't pay much attention since I use Photoshop, but I know it was a 2-digit number.

Photoshop 7, which is the version I have, was $700, or maybe a little bit more. I also have version 6, and I can't remember what that one was. Sometimes on EBAY you can get an older version like 6 for quite a bit less. I can't afford the latest version of Photoshop, but I swear by it as being THE BEST graphic software out there. I even use it to draw.

Paint Shop Pro is usually around $100. I actually think PSP is a little harder to work with. I do like the tubes that are available with PSP, though. Usually I take a tube and save it as a Photoshop PSD file, and use it in Photoshop. One thing, I LOVE PSP's Animation Shop to make animated gifs.

I'm getting this for Christmas this year!
I think I am also getting a book on how to use it, which is even better. I think it is around $75 on Amazon. You can download a 30 day trial on the Adobe website. I did and was very impressed with some of the photo editing features.

I agree that Photoshop Elements is a good buy. If you get a decent book, it's pretty easy when you get the hang of it.
Also, if you have a fast connection you could look into LimeWire & find stuff like that on there.
