one of our cats just loves (sometimes obsessively) to lick my arms and not my wifes as much. could this be due to the fact that my arms are hairy?

Maybe she's giving your arm a bath.
As you know, cats clean themselves by licking their bodies.
I think she is just trying to groom you, and showing affection.
Toulouse licks me because 1) he's hungry or 2)because he want to show love (he doesn't do the face rub very much yet). Kanoe will lick me occasionally as part of her obsessive desire to have everything clean!
